He sat up briefly as his companion walked into the room. He wondered if this time she would stay. He wanted the best for her, as he always had. He had helped her escape a bad man before, he was willing to help her do anything. He lay down once more as she silently grabbed what she needed for her horses, and smiled at him as she left.

Once more alone with his thoughts, he rambled through them as if they were nothing but brush and he was hunting through it for a rabbit. He remembered the night they left their home, just him and her. It had been after her man had beaten her for the last time. He had watched until something snapped inside him. He lunged at the man, grabbing his throat, crushing it, and being then pulled away by the bruised and broken woman.

He remembered her collecting her belongings, and then they left in the night. Slowly making their way here, to this place. Where no one beats her, or kicks me. Where they both have jobs to do. Where she is happy.

With that thought the large dog slowly rose to his feet, and ambled outside, towards the rider barracks where she was working. She quickly spotted him.

"Tahoi, c'mere and help me round up these ponies before I have to take 'em to the castle, this seems to be a frisky bunch."
