Note: This story isn't just about Jace and Clary, this story will include all of the characters; it's just filed under Jace and Clary because the plot hinges on them.

Intervention

"There. That's about enough, don't you think?" She twirled the little bottle, making the clear liquid inside slosh around.

The nondescript container seemed to flash and spark in her experienced hands as she set it in his palm.

"I'd be careful with how you put in –I'm not even sure someone like you can fool a Shadowhunter. Make sure she gets it."

He stared disbelievingly at it. What had he gotten himself into? He remembered how only ten minutes earlier as he had been preparing for the Friday night rush, when he'd seen a girl slip through the door.

Looking up, mouth open and ready to object, he'd found himself speechless as she simply flicked a finger at him and began her speech.

"Are you aware of Clarissa Morgenstern?" He'd nodded, dumbstruck.

"Alright, then you would know that she resides at the Institute in New York and frequents this club. You will put some of this in her drink until further instructions have been given." Suddenly there was a small, sharp-edged bottle catching the light in her hand.

She must have read the refusal in his eyes, for she smirked and said, "Don't worry. It has no...unfortunate effects." To prove her point, she twisted the cap off and splashed some in her mouth. Swallowing and showing him her sharp teeth, she'd demanded, "Satisfied?"

He was certain that she held magic in her- he could sense it in her gaze and pale eyes. Her eyes had held a certain hypnotic quality, something flickering like fire behind the white irises... The same eyes that were staring into his now, before blinking and ending the connection, apparently satisfied with what they saw. The girl turned to go, then seemed to reconsider.

"The payment we discussed will arrive shortly. And we will know whether you've completed your part of the bargain. You wouldn't want to cross us, now would you?" After seeing the negative response, she showed the edge of a cold, calculating smile and turned to go.

He had no way of knowing that the instant she exited, a dark hand pulled her viciously into an alley and, amidst a tornado of cocooning red sparks, her life ended.

AN: Okay, that was pretty short :| but this was a necessary prologue. I've had the idea for this running around my head, and I realized I better write/post it soon, because CoFA will come out soon!

Also, if the formatting is bad, sorry, blame my laptop.

Reviews- it means ten seconds of writing for you, and ten days of happiness for me.
