*BOOM* the calm air and slowly falling snowflakes were blasted outwards as reality was surgically shattered delivering 3 migrants onto the street at night. The father looked quite pleased with the results of this transportation. The family of 3 were stood right in front of their new home bought just yesterday.
VICTOR: "This is it."
Victor removed his watch and replaced it with new one more native to this world.
ELLIE: "is there a spare key?."
VICTOR: "here."
Victor dropped the key into Ellie's hand
VICTOR: "see you next week."
ELLIE: "yeah, bye.
Ellie left her bags for her family to take in. she wasn't pleased about leaving her old world, her life, behind and would refuse to look at their new home for days after their arrival.
Victor and his remaining daughter Vivian entered the house. Dropped their bags and began inspecting. This was their first time inside and in hindsight Victor could have easily been scammed for more than the house was worth and probably should have checked inside before taking it, luckily it was pretty alright.
Vivian began setting up her room, Victor dropped Ellie's stuff in her's and collapsed onto his bed and fell asleep, he hoped this new life will be less exhausting.
The first rays of morning sun creeped in through Vivian's window, so she closed the curtain and made a mental note to board that window up, or at least tell Dad to do it.
It was 1:00 PM by the time Vivian left her bedroom, she encountered her father in the kitchen burning a large stack of important looking pieces of paper one at a time and making mess of ash around the stove in the process.
Vivian was curious.
VIVIAN: "what are you doing?"
VICTOR: "burning."
VIVIAN: "right…"
But not that curious, she moved on to scavenge the cupboard for snacks of which there were none, they had just moved in and people in this family rarely took the initiative until situations became dire and then they would be done with a great degree of passive aggression.
Vivian meandered into the lounge area which was not separated from the kitchen by any wall and planted herself on a couch facing away from her dad, she pulled her DS out of her pocket and picked up where she left off.
VICTOR: "you should probably start looking for a job."
Vivian paused her game and herself. She bent her neck backwards until she saw her dad upside down and stared at him deadpan
VIVIAN: "what?"
Victor dropped another important document into the flames
VICTOR: "work, that makes money."
VIVIAN: "why?"
VICTOR: "because we need it."
VIVIAN: "what happened to ours?"
VICTOR: "it's not the same as in this universe."
VIVIAN: "how'd we get this house then?"
VICTOR: "don't ask but if people in suits come to the door don't tell them anything."
The Doorbell rang.
VICTOR: "we'll continue this later, get the door."
VIVIAN: "ugh."
Vivian removed herself from the couch and made the arduous journey to the front door. Vivian pulled on the door, it didn't move, Vivian unlocked the door and tried again. On the doorstep she found a small girl who purely visually radiated an uncomfortable amount of positivity.
