"Looks like he's going to rabbit," Pete Malloy remarked to the younger officer seated beside him. As the senior officer hit the two toggle switches, for red lights and siren, the vehicle ahead, already beginning to accelerate, raced ahead in a cloud of smoke.

Jim Reed grasped the two way radio's microphone, depressed the red button, and reported the chase. "This is 1-Adam-12, in pursuit."

"All units on Frequency One, stand by," the police dispatcher ordered. "1-Adam-12, go."

"1-Adam-12, in pursuit westbound on Pico approaching Western. Suspect vehicle is a van conversion with the words 'Mystery Machine' on the side."
