A/N: Hey there, thanks for clicking on my story! :D It's just a little one-shot I wrote spur-of-the-moment a couple months ago and I'm just now getting around to posting it. I hope you enjoy!

A DREAM BEFORE MEMORY

A small child, no more than five years old, lay peacefully asleep on his bed, unaware of the world. Unaware of the growing darkness. Sandy blond hair fell over his forehead, reaching down to cover his closed eyes as if to keep them shut.

He turned fitfully, sleep-whispers escaping his lips and fading into the darkness. But they did not fade completely, instead coming back louder and more urgent than before.

"Please don' go... Please." The child said, his dreams dictating his speech. "Don' leave me..." He tossed in his sleep, getting tangled in the bed covers and crying out louder than before.

"No! Don't go! Please!" His eyes were clenched tightly and handfuls of the sheets were grasped in his small fists.

"MOTHER!" One last shriek escaped him as the door quickly opened and a young woman came running in. She sat down on the bed and gathered the now awake child into her arms.

"Shh, shh, it's okay, Luke." She said, rocking slowly back and forth. "It's okay, I'm here. Aunt Beru is here now."

Luke's trembling eased gradually and he finally lifted his eyes to meet Beru's. His lower lip quivered as Beru looked into his watery, blue eyes, searching for something to help her understand his fear.

All she saw was his father. His father's clear, blue eyes, his father's steadfast gaze, his father's way of looking straight through a person and into their soul. Luke was so much like his father, it scared Beru sometimes.

But there was also much of his mother in him. Yes, now that she thought about it, there was almost as much of his mother in him as there was his father.

Beru's wandering thoughts were interrupted by a small voice.

"I dreamed, Aunt Beru." Luke whispered to her, looking up at her with an unreadable expression.

Beru was slightly confused by Luke's reaction to what had seemed to be a nightmare, but she simply whispered back, "Did you, Luke? What about?"

He hesitated a moment, his eyes glazing over as if lost in a memory – or a dream of a memory.

"I dreamed about mother."

Beru's breath caught in her throat, and she had to restrain her hand from flying to her heart. She gently stroked Luke's hair, not knowing what to say. "What happened?"

Luke closed his eyes and buried his face in Beru's arms. She hugged him tight, but worried at his lack of response. "Lukey?"

A muffled murmur floated up, so soft that she couldn't catch it. "What was that, Luke?"

"She left me."

Tears trickled down Beru's cheeks and onto Luke's head, "Oh, Luke."

She cried, holding him closer, as he lay in her arms and wept, crying for the mother he had never known.

And across the galaxy, held tightly in Bail Organa's arms, Leia cried too.

A/N: Okay, so this was my first time writing something for the Star Wars fandom, and while I love the movies, I'm not a super-fan, fanatic, whatever you want to call them. ;) So if I got any of the names wrong, timeline wrong, whatever, just let me know - though I highly doubt I could have messed anything up in such a short piece! Haha, that would be a record, even for me!

Thanks for reading! I would absolutely adore you if you reviewed for me. ;D

God bless!
