Author's Note:
This started as a one shot thing, but I think there's a plot forming in my head. Read & review and give your opinion. Yes, it would be Artemis/Minerva. Don't hateeee.
Though he was by no means a social person, Artemis was deeply involved in world affairs. He contributed to numerous international science and political journals. Added together, his academic writings could challenge those of men like Einstein and Benjamin Franklin. Artemis' three-year long stay in Hybras the world's abundance of academic papers certainly took a hit. Foaly almost felt it necessary to contribute a bit of his own knowledge to the cause of the advancement of human science. Almost.
Upon his return to Earth, Artemis decided that family matters were more immediately important than world affairs. And, of course, matters of the heart.
After meeting Butler at his seaside home, Artemis traveled to Fowl Manor. During his plane trip he felt he should call someone. His communications with Holly and his other fairy friends could wait, while a certain girl who hadn't seen him in three years really couldn't.
"Hello, who is this?" a still young sounding girl articulated in French as she answered her cell phone.
"Minerva? Butler has told me you would wish to hear from me as soon as I returned," said the boy on the other end of the phone line.
"Ar…Artemis? Is that really you? I can't believe you're back and I…"
"Don't know what to say?"
"Well, well yes. I mean there is so much…"
Her reaction to his return was not shock, she knew he would be back, Butler had reassured her and she had come to trust him. Minerva was simply surprised, a feeling she didn't experience much. As a genius she could predict most human reactions and scientific events. Artemis' return was magic. Literally, of course; she knew that warlocks and demons and fairies were involved. But there was also that feeling of butterflies in her stomach, that feeling that made her feel like a silly teenage girl. Uncomfortable, yet enjoyable.
Artemis, aided by Butler, came up with something to say. br
"Honestly, how have you been? Butler tells me you visit him often." br
Smiling, she remembered her last visit to the Irish coast. Butler was one of few people who would put up with her almost insufferable show off tendencies. "Yes, yes. I have been all right. You know the human psyche as well as I do, and losing a friend does not affect it well."
"Ah, friends, Minerva? Is that what we are?"
"Well I had assumed so, you rescued me, remember?
Of course he remembered. He also remembered her smile, her hair, and from what he had heard, she had grown to be an attractive young lady in the years of his absence. When Artemis had inquired about their status as friends he had in mind thoughts of being more than friends, rather than not friends at all.
He quickly replied, "Certainly, yes. I only meant…well, let's not discuss that now. I called to invite you to visit Fowl Manor during your next school break. I shall need someone to catch me up on happenings in our society in the past three years." Artemis hoped that his nervousness at asking Minerva to stay would not be heard by her.
"Okay," Minerva practically squeaked. "I mean yes, sure. I had planned on visiting Butler anyway."
"Good, I shall call you later, as our flight is about to land."
"Goodbye, Artemis."
He bid her farewell and hung up the phone.
Minerva began jumping around happily, receiving a strange look from her brother, Beau.
Artemis, though, was calm and collected, as he was in a plane with others people. It would certainly ruin his emotionless reputation to be seen jumping all over the airplane.
"Happy, Artemis?" inquired Butler as the airplane began it's decent to the ground.
"Yes, Butler, I do believe I am."
And that's what I have so far.
Should I leave it as a one shot or continue ?
