Of Purple Cats and Smoking Caterpillars

Rating: PG/K+
Genre: General
Summary: Snapshot Three. Nora is always reading that book. She likes the caterpillar. I like the cat.
Author's Note: Snapshot based off of Nora. Yup. This was actually meant to be the third post. I wanted to post them chronologically (In relation to the order Alex found them in the game), but I just wanted to post it to make sure I remembered to.

Disclaimer: I don't own Silent Hill. It belongs to Konami.

"Who's your favorite, Josh?"

"Eh?"

Nora looked over the edge of the bench. Josh was lying on the grass beneath the rickety wooden bench, his head poking just out from under the seat. Nora had long ago given up on asking after Josh's often- and this was putting it nicely, in most cases- weird behavior, and merely settled with what she saw.

Nora held up the book, cover and spine battered from over-usage: Alice in Wonderland. Josh hesitated. He'd never actually read the Alice in Wonderland novels, though he had seen the Disney movie (Who hadn't?). Nora liked both the movie and book, but had started off with the book, and therefore was able to pinpoint the key differences between the movie and book.

And if Nora knew he'd never read the book, she would tail him around and try to make him until he buckled. Joey had found that out the hard way, after saying 'The Queen of Hearts' instead of 'The Red Queen'. A week later, Nora was triumphant and Alex was snickering about how whipped they'd be when they were adults (Prompting Elle to push him off the dock, where they'd been standing at the time).

So there had to be some finesse to this answer. The only character he could honestly confirm was in both books (That went by the same name) was Alice. Duh.

There were Tweedle-Dee and Tweedle-Dum… But no.

And the Queen of- No, sorry, The Red Queen was too psycho to like.

The Mad Hatter and March Hare were a little too goofy and kiddish for his liking…

If there had been a spider character, he would've said that, but no…

"The cat."

Nora didn't even pause to process the vagueness of the statement.

"The Cheshire Cat?"

"Yeah, him. I like the big, goofy grin, and the riddles." Nora giggled.

" 'twas Brillig and the slithy toves did gyre and gimble in the wabe." Josh stared up at her, an odd look on his face.

"I don't know what you just said, but I don't ever want to hear you calling me weird again." Nora giggled.

"That's one of the Cheshire Cat's famous lines, Josh. Read the book!" Josh rolled his eyes.

"Yeah, yeah," He muttered. Nora shook her head and buried her nose in the book again. He had to give her credit; she could get sucked into it in under ten seconds. It usually took him five. At least.

He grabbed his camera, lying next to him, and slid out from under the bench. He sat for a moment, brushing some dirt and grass off the bottom of the camera, idly wondering if there was anything around to take a picture of. He got to his feet and looked around in observation.

Trees. Bushes. Pond. Buildings.

…Nope. Nothing he hadn't gotten a picture of before.

He turned back to Nora, intending to take his leave, and then stopped.

Ah! Photo opportunity!

Nora didn't see him raise the camera, so intent she was on the book. Even when the light flashed and the camera clicked, it took her a good five seconds to realize it and break her concentration. She was actually one of those people who hate having her picture taken, so this was a lucky hit for Josh.

"Hey!"

Cackling, Josh ran off, the quickly developing picture held high above his head.
