This picks up exactly where the finale ended, with Paige in Walter's hospital room and him sleeping. It's been an amazing first season and a brilliant finale. Hope the hiatus jus flies by.

Enjoy!

Paige stands by his bedside for a long time, her hand on top of his, she watches him sleep. She thanks God for the thousandth time in just a few hours for the fact that he made it out of that impossible situation alive, and miraculously in one piece. She knows Walter wouldn't like her calling it a miracle. But it is what it is.

The next time Paige is aware of where she is, she is brought back by the sound of Walter shuffling. She finds herself sitting on a chair by his bed. She had fallen asleep. She doesn't remember how or when. She turns to look at him and finds his gaze locked at a spot on the bed. She follows it and sees he is watching their hands, hers on top of his. Paige panics. She knows how he feels about physical contact and while it was ok when he was out of it, she feels nervous now that he is awake.

So Paige starts to pull away but what Walter does next takes her by surprise. He turns his hand around under hers and threads his finger through hers. For a moment, she cannot take her eyes off their hands, the way her fingers fit perfectly between hers. She finally has to tear her gaze away, something pulls her eyes away from their hands and she turns to see him watching her, a tired smile on his lips. And then he closes his eyes again.

The next time she wakes up, Paige's arm is numb. She opens her eyes to look at the spot on his bed where their entwined hands had been. But they're not there anymore, and she understands why her arm feels numb. Her hand and his, still tightly clasped rest against Walter's chest. She smiles but can't hide the fact that it's uncomfortable. Her arm is at an awkward angle and she tries to pull away but stops when she feels the steady rhythm of his heart beat against her fingertips.

She knows this is exactly where it's meant to be.

I know it's short. Very short. And nothing really happened. But it just came to me and it wouldn't leave me alone. So I hope you enjoy this little post-finale drabble and let me know if you do (or don't). Thanks!
