It was the beginning of the school day. Heidi Turner was at her locker, gathering the books that she would be needing for all her classes before lunch and chatting with some of her friends.
"Ugh, I was up all night again doing all that homework," Wendy said sleepily, "Mr. Garrison doesn't seem to want us to be able to sleep lately. All this homework…"
"Totally," Red grunted in agreement.
While they were making small talk, Red glanced across the hallway at Bebe, who was talking to Clyde. Heidi had always had a bit of a crush on Bebe. She loved her curly blond hair as well as her personality, which was full of both sweetness and confidence. Heidi held her books to her chest and sighed in yearning, wondering what it would be like to be Bebe's girlfriend. Unfortunately, Heidi was fairly certain that Bebe was going out with Clyde.
"Hey, Red," Heidi said, getting her best friend's attention, "Is it true that Bebe and Clyde are together now?"
"No, they're just friends, Bebe's not really interested in Clyde in that way," Red replied casually.
"Oh," Heidi said, trying not to sound too interested, but she was secretly very excited. Maybe she could tell Bebe and at the very least get the feelings off her chest even if Bebe didn't feel the same way.
After most of the South Park Elementary students had dispersed to go to class, Heidi slipped a note into Bebe's locker. It read Meet me at Stark's Pond after School. I have a really interesting secret to tell you.
Bebe saw the note at lunch time that day. After reading it, she thought it could be interesting and felt a bit excited to hear what Heidi had to tell her. Of course, she didn't tell anyone else. Heidi was her friend and if she had a secret, Bebe would keep it confidential.
…
Heidi sat nervously at the bench overlooking Stark's Pond. It was a warm and sunny spring day. Soon Bebe came walking up to her.
"Hey, Heidi," Bebe said in a friendly tone as she took a seat next to Heidi on the bench, "You said you had a secret for me?"
Heidi was nervous, but there was no point in giving up now that she had Bebe right here, alone, to tell her how she felt.
"Bebe, I love you. I love how your hair sparkles in the sun. You're so beautiful to me," Heidi explained, blushing.
"Aw, Heidi, that's the most romantic compliment I've ever gotten," Bebe said appreciatively, "But I think your hair is prettier."
"Thanks," Heidi replied, blushing even more.
Bebe leaned over and gave Heidi a kiss on the cheek. This caused Heidi to jump out of her seat and squeal with excitement. Bebe stood up, took Heidi's hands and looked her lovingly in the eyes. Both Heidi and Bebe's hair was gently ruffled by a warm spring breeze.
"I love you too, Heidi, you're the most sincere person I've ever known."
Heidi fell with joy into Bebe's arms for a few moments. After that, they sat back down to watch the sunset together.
