"Tell me, Light. Do you dance?"

Light had heard many questions in his life and given many answers in return, but this one was quite odd.

He and L had been alone in this rather empty room for a while. L had taken to being rather silent, listening to Light ramble about his predictably simple life. This was a daily occurrence now, and would go on for hours before the older man would abruptly leave.

However, this afternoon was quite different.

L still wasn't speaking, however he had brought a CD player with him. Light, rather confused, had questioned his motives; but the man ignored him completely and just played the music.

After a few songs, one tune sounded rather familiar to Light. "L...is that..?" The boy laughed softly. "I didn't know you had a taste for J-pop. I thought you were Brit-"

Then, L asked his question, and for a moment, Light wasn't too sure he had an answer. After pausing to think, he nodded. "I...uh...yeah...I mean I know how. I haven't danced in a while." He mumbled, laughing a bit. L nodded, seeming pleased with the answer, and stood.

The teen stared blankly at the extended hand before realizing what it implied. His cheeks grew warm and a scoff escaped him. "Are you asking me to dance, L?" He arched a brow, smirking.

L watched him in his usual owlish manner. "You can accept it or continue to stare at my hand like you are." He muttered, cocking his head slightly. Light laughed and stood, grasping his hand. "I just found it amusing that you were treating me like a woman."

"Were you always this sexist, Raito-kun?" The other man pondered as they moved to the rhythm. "Or have you no consideration for human life at all?" Their eyes were locked. To an outsider, it was just a simple dance- almost romantic. But in reality, it was just like the tennis match that seemed so long ago now. A battle of wits raging unseen by others between their gazes.

Light sighed. "You really won't be satisfied unless I am Kira, will you?" He muttered, disappointment filling his voice.

"Perhaps you are right. But also, you may be wrong." L pondered, laughter twinkling in his eyes as Light jolted when his hand grasped his side. "The detective in me desires correctness. However," Light's attention became perked at the change in tone. "I also wouldn't mind the other option, as I would be very disappointed to lose you as a friend." He murmured.

Light sighed and looked away, continuing to sway with him to the tune. "L, is that why you've been so silent?" He murmured. "You're implying that, if I was Kira, you would lose me."

The teen was surprised to hear L laugh. It was an almost sad sound, and the man looked like he could cry.

"No, Light. I'm implying that you'd have never been my friend at all."
