It's been days, months, years since Diana went through a terrible lose... Her doctor had finally given her the approval that she could go back out into the wold, be normal again. It was a Friday afternoon in November and Diana was just getting herself ready when another patient, a friend she had made named Jennifer, had stopped by her room.
"You're finally going home, huh?" Jennifer's voice had a hint of New York in it. She looked tough and had tattoos all up both her arms.
"Oh yes I am!" Diana spoke with a perky tone of voice. She shut her suit case. "I'm going to see my beautiful girl, Natalie and my husband..We'll probably have sex." She blushed and Jennifer chuckled.
Just then, Diana's doctor walked by catching only the tail end of the conversation. He stopped midstep, a frown was seen on his lips. "Diana.." He let out in a sigh. "How many times must I tell you this, maybe you're not ready to leave just yet." He took the suit case from her in a rather calm way. "You don't have a daughter...And your husband is dead."
Diana's eyes widened. "What? B-But..But Natalie and..And Dan.." She was stuttering now, speechless she sat down on her bed. The doctor sat next to her. "You were in a car accident just 18 months after Gabe was born. Your husband was going too fast and crashed. Luckily you survived. You've been living on your own since then but went for help when you started to hallucinate your son but you thought all the other people around you were real." Her doctor explained ever so casually like he does everyday. For some reason Diana just doesn't get it.
"But Natalie...She was with that boy, Henry!" Diana protested, turning her attention to her doctor.
"Natalie was just a vision of yourself but younger. Like Natalie, you too had an unstable mother and Henry was a younger vision of your father who you say used to help you get through certain things when your mother was going through one of her episodes."
"And Dan..?"
"Dan was a hallucination just like Gabe, just like Natalie..." The doctor stood. "Diana, I'm sorry but you may want to unpack...You won't be going anywhere for a while. I fear there still may be some more work to be done, tests to run, pills to take.. We will find a cure."
Diana was crying at this point. "I want to go! I want to get out of here! I don't belong here!" He got up quickly and stormed out of her room and down the hall. She was on a mission to escape. In her mind, she was trying to get to her family...She never made it. She was caught and sedated...
As she lay strapped down to her bed she saw Dan, Natalie, Henry and Gabe looking like the perfect family. They were just watching her. Gabe came close and placed a hand onto hers. It felt so real. He gave her a sweet smile, placing something in the palm of her hand.
"See you soon, mom." He whispered into her ear then the whole family left her room. Diana opened her hand and saw a razor (which she had actually grabbed herself earlier) and then squeezed her hand shut, the razor breaking skin and blood started to flow...
