A/N: Well, here's something new for you all. I typically don't write poetry, but I thought I'd give it a shot for once. This is a poem from Merlin's perspective for Morgana, a lament about what he did not do for her which caused her to turn evil. I should explain that while I know season 2 episode 12, "The Fires of Idirsholas" is the point of no return for Merlin and Morgana's relationship (when he poisons her), I believe that Season 2, episode 3, "The Nightmare Begins" is the true turning point in Merlin and Morgana's relationship, for the fact that Merlin choses not to reveal his magic to Morgana but send her away to the Druids for help. That is alluded to in this poem, and I thought I'd clarify that. Anyways, enjoy.

Lullaby for a Lady

Darkness now covers that still waterside

Where last time I did see you lay

Held in my arms and for the last time

For my own blindness you did painfully pay.

Oh, Lady Morgana, here now I do stand

The loneliest man in the world

For I was too fearful to make myself known

And like sand you did fall through my fingers uncurled.

I knew your affliction, I understood

Your fear, and your pain, and your tears

But I chose the easy road, hiding myself

Not knowing it would cost me a friend I held dear.

For there once was a lady with raven black hair

Whose heart was as white as the snow

But the powers that resided deep in her soul

Would slowly and dangerously change and then grow.

She was scared of her powers, she knew the price

That revealing her magic would cost

And though she sought help from those whom she trusted

To her own fear and anger she was eventually lost.

There once was a warlock who knew this young lady

And though she considered him friend,

He feared her destiny, held himself back

And sent her away to the Druids instead.

Instead of revealing himself to the girl

To a dragon's threatening words he did heed

And when she was so lost and he had the chance

He turned her away in her time of great need.

He didn't know that his choices that night

Would cause such a turn for the worse

Though his decision was made to protect both their lives

It would cause the girl's hate to grow like a curse.

She hated her father, she hated her kin,

She hated all whom she knew

And though they were similar, both magic-born

She ended up hating the young warlock too.

Morgana, I'm sorry, I never meant

For my actions to push you away

Now for the heart that is gone now in death

I offer my lullaby today.

If only I'd known, if only I'd seen

The pain that my choices would cause

I could have helped you, but now and forever

I am doomed to suffer your loss.

Though years have passed and all that I knew

Is gone, and replaced by the changing of time

Still I come here and I still feel guilt

That you suffered the consequences which should have been mine.

Sleep now, sweet lady, Morgana, don't fear

May peace and may mercy attend you

Too late to change pasts, but please, lady, know

I treasured your friendship much more than I knew.

Morgana, I'm sorry, I never meant

For my actions to push you away

Now for the heart that is gone now in death

I offer my lullaby today.

And accept my apology, I pray.

A/N: Poetry style was inspired by the song "Lullaby for the Princess", which is a gorgeous song and even if you aren't an MLP fan, you should still go onto Youtube and listen to it. It's lovely. I hope you enjoyed my attempt at poetry, and happy Monday.
