The little boy stared with huge, fearful eyes up at the beast who blew hot air down upon him. He had to do this, he told himself; he had no choice. His momma was badly sick, and there was no one around for miles and miles. He had to get help. He had to get the doctor and her medicine. He hadn't even touched a horse since he'd seen his father thrown, but there was no other way. Hearing his mother reminding him that a Tanner could do anything they put their mind to, Vin reached determinedly for the reins.
