Mercy

Petunia Dursley didn't cry at her sister's funeral.

That may sound heartless, but she had cried too much already. Far too much. It made her feel weak, and she didn't like feeling weak. And there were members of her kind there. She recognised Remus Lupin and Severus Snape. Emmeline Vance was there too. Lily's old friends. She didn't want to appear anything but put together in front of them. So she bit her lower lip (to keep it from quivering) and pressed her bunch of flowers (daffodils and pansies) into Lily's unmoving hands. Petunia wished (oh, how she wished) that she had been less selfish. She wished that she had just acted like a real older sister. But it was too late now.

She rested a hand on her sister's cold forehead, and whispered, "May God have mercy on your soul." She gave a nod to James (he would've tried to protect them), though he could no longer see, and she left. There were two babies at home that needed caring for, and Vernon couldn't handle that by himself.

She returned every Halloween, to just sit in front of Lily's grave and talk to her.

It was never the same.

Flower meanings- From

Daffodil- Daffodils have meanings of faith, honesty, truth, forgiveness, and forthrightness. Give daffodils to someone as a token of forgiveness.

Pansy- Pansies have long been flowers of remembrance. Indeed, they have often been placed upon memorial markers and stones to honour and remember those who are no longer on the physical plane. They are also a symbol of togetherness and union, and perhaps this is why they are so appropriate for remembering those who have passed from our lives.
