*I don't own Jane and the Dragon or its characters
Just a random fic inspired by a daydream. I don't know why I relate to Gunther so well, but he's definitely the most fun to write about. Hope you enjoy!
Like all other events, Gunther was required to attend the ball since it reflected well on his father and all. And like everything else, it was a complete bore. As he was heading for the door, there Jane was in the corner of the room laughing about who knows what looking as delightful as ever. He was not one for small talk and lesser known for being the life of the party. Knowing that every step he took meant the chances were higher for humiliation, he was slow on approaching. Puffing out his chest, clearing his voice, he said in his proud voice "I could not help but notice you from across the room in that, how should I put it... That ridiculous outfit. I mean just look at yourself, your ankles are showing."
"And what business of yours is it if my ankles are showing? I swear, it is like you have nothing better to do then to boast yourself up"
"At least I am not laughing and carrying on like a fool"
"That's it"
Tugging him by the ear, they made it outside away from judging eyes "You almost gave yourself away"
"Why do we have to hide are relationship?"
Fixing the collar of his tunic, she smiled "It is more exciting if we keep everyone guessing. Do you not agree?"
"That is absurd! I think we should flaunt it in their faces"
"Shows what you know"
"And why of all people are you talking with that fool?"
"He's my friend, what was I supposed to do?"
"Well if you weren't having such a great time then I would have no reason to pester you"
"What is it about little boys making fun of little girls? Each time they want to grab their attention they taunt them with silly words and offer them worms for appetizers"
With a mischievous smile spreading across his face, he pressed a light peck on her lips "I am not sure, perhaps it is the fact that little girls are often stronger then little boys so they have to try harder to grow up"
"If you wanted to dance you should have just said so"
"How was I supposed to know you would say yes?"
"I have not the slightest idea, but I think the odds are in your favor"
"Is that yes?"
"Do I have to spell it out for you?
"Why are woman so round about when it comes to answering questions?"
"Come on beef brain, this night air is affecting your mind"
"That was yes right?"
Winking an eye, she linked arms with him. "I think it does"
