Eve/Michael

For Hanziii – love you! But red milk ftw!

The first time that I met Eve Rosser? It was when we were both in reception, the first day of our twelve years of compulsory schooling. Nobody could have been more excited to be at school than Eve, something which surprised me: after all, we were never going to be free again. That day was the last day that we would have the chance to do anything we want to, the last day we could decide to get up at 1pm because we wanted a nap or even the last day we could go and bury our friends in the sandpit besides for their head.

But I realised that she didn't like being at home: when she arrived, I remember looking at her with her light brown hair and the way that she ran – literally ran - from her mother. She was the first one to be waiting to be let into the little room where we hung up our coats, whilst I stayed with my Mum, not wanting to leave her. I didn't want to go to school, to lose the chance to bake cakes with Mum during the day or even being able to see Grandad Sam when Dad was at work.

"Why did you run in here?" I asked her with a sense of confusion as I realised we were put together, both in Red House. She was putting her threadbare coat on her peg and seemed painfully thin, the bracelet on her wrist hanging off it almost.

"Because… because I wanted to come to school," she lied: even my five year old self could tell… but then she ran off to look at the box of toys in the classroom and left me there.

That was the first time that I met Eve Rosser. It was also the first time that I worried about her but, even though we were in different circles during our school time, it wasn't the last.

What did you think?

Please review!

Would you like another incident between the two of them, in Eve's POV or something?
