Wounds that don't heal

Disclaimer: You know the deal. No Naruto ownage for me.

The proposal was sudden. The whole thing was sudden. But the blonde shinobi was happy for the new couple. The whole village was. The title of Rokudaime belonged to him, so Naruto had no reason to be unhappy, living his dream. He had gazed longingly at her, thinking nothing could go wrong. Then the dating came, and from there the proposal. The pleasure it brought his best friend bothered him. It seemed that Kiba and Hinata were enjoying every second of the time they spent together. So why was Naruto distressed? He should be glad for Kiba. His best friend has a girl. So why should it matter to him?

The fact was it did. What bothered him most was it was the girl he regretted never asking out, never noticing her sweet adoration of him. So now he had lost her, and it was for good. He got his dream job, but he lost her, lost the most important thing in his mind now. So the wedding came, and as he watched her go down the aisle, and as he did his duties as best man, he watched her with mixed emotions of ecstasy and jealousy. He then realized the sad truth in life, at his best friend's wedding, the happiest day of Kiba's life.

Those wounds you acquire during missions, they mean nothing; they heal. But wounds obtained in life, in love, those are important. They leave a void in your heart, and unfortunately for the blonde, they never heal.
