A Conversation Under the Stars

"Derek?" Spencer Reid rolled to face his partner on the blanket they had laid in the yard to star gaze.
"Yeah?" Derek replied not taking his eyes off the deep blue sky above him.
"Do you regret it?"
"Regret what?" Derek said, his eyes following a firefly that crossed in front of his field of vision.
"Leaving." Spencer said simply.
A few weeks ago Spencer and Derek's relationship had been discovered; the rest of their team hadn't cared, but when Section Chief Strauss found out she had been furious. She had demanded that one of them leave the team immediately. Derek had told the team he would leave and transfer back to a different department because Spencer was too valuable for the team to lose and they could always find another muscle man.
Derek turned to look at Spencer. "I miss it sure, but Strauss gave an ultimatum. We had to split up or one of us had to leave." Derek cupped Spencer's cheek with one hand. "It was between you and the BAU. It was an easy decision."
Spencer leaned into Derek's touch and bit his bottom lip; he still wasn't quite used to physical intimacy.
"I don't regret it, Spencer." Derek said sensing Spencer's disbelief in his answer. "Really I don't. I love you," He put his forehead against Spencer's. "I would quit the BAU a thousand times before I would give you up."
Spencer blushed and turned his eyes away; he didn't know how to respond.
"Hey, Pretty Boy, look at me." Derek said turning Spencer's face back towards him. When Spencer's eyes met his own he saw the love shining in the honey brown eyes with small flecks of green. "Don't blame yourself. It was my choice and I don't regret it one bit." That said he pressed his lips gently against Spencer's.
"I love you," Spencer said all traces of doubt gone from his voice.
"I love you too." Derek said lying back down and pulling Spencer against him, who snuggled into his side. They both looked up at the serenity of the dark blue sky with its twinkling stars.
