Who She Was
DISCLAIMER: I DO NOT OWN FAIRY TAIL AND THE COVER IMAGE!
Juvia can't believe it. Gray-sama is supposed to belong to Juvia, not love-rival Lucy.
Juvia had been at the Fairy Tail guild, talking to Gajeel when Gray had come in with Lucy. The first thing she noticed was that they were holding hands. The next thing was the light blushes on their faces. Next, Gray had announced to the whole guild that he was now dating the celestial mage.
The water mage had run out of the guild as soon as the cheering had started. The sky started crying as soon as she did and it followed her, even though she didn't want it to. She found herself slowing down, stopping when she came to a familiar place; a bridge going across a lake, surrounded by trees. She leaned against the railing and buried her head in her arms. She let her tears fall, small sobs escaping her mouth. After a few minutes, she noticed the rain had gotten lighter, softer and colder.
"A beautiful mage like you shouldn't be crying her heart out. You look more beautiful when you're smiling." Her head snapped up to look at the man who had just spoken to her. The ice make mage in front of her was softly smiling, whilst his hands held her face and his thumbs were wiping away her tears. She looked at him, then up at the sky, only to see that the rain had turned into snow. She guessed it had something to do with the ice mage in front of her.
"Why are you comforting Juvia?" the water mage asked.
"Because I love you and I can't stand seeing you upset." The water mage was trying to take in the words she just heard. He loved her. How was she supposed to respond to that? Did she love him?
"Juvia doesn't know if she loves you," she told him quietly. She didn't want to hurt the man's feelings, but it would be wrong for her to give him false hope.
"I don't expect you to know right now. I just wanted to let you know that there are other people who care for you and treasure you; like me." Lyon gave the water mage a genuine smile and turned away from her, leaving the way he came. Before Juvia realised what she was doing, she had already made a wall of water in front of Lyon, stopping him in his tracks.
"Lyon-sama, wait!" the water mage shouted. The male turned around, waiting for Juvia to continue. When she saw him turn, Juvia dropped the water wall and tried to figure out what to say next. Her heart was beating faster than usual (faster than when she was around Gray), adrenalin was flowing though her body and her breaths were becoming slightly uneven.
"J-Juvia...J-Juvia thinks t-that...J-Juvia l-loves...J-Juvia loves L-lyon-sama." When she realised what she said, she let out a surprised gasp and covered her mouth with her hands. Her eyes widened and looked at the ice mage to see his reaction. The ice mage looked at her, a frown etched on his face. She had to be lying; she had been obsessed with Gray since the day they met and had declined all of Lyon's offers of going out or joining Lamia Scale. There's no way she could know she loved Lyon so quickly and he didn't want to be a rebound.
"Juvia really loves Lyon-sama," she repeated. He saw the sincerity in her eyes and decided to give this a chance. Even if he might be the rebound guy, he still loved the water mage. He was finally getting a chance to be with her and he would be a fool not to take this opportunity. He walked back to Juvia and leaned in. His lips were almost touching hers when he decided to ask one last question.
"Are you sure?" She nodded and grabbed his neck, bringing his lips to hers. Her lips were soft and smooth. They moved against his in perfect unison, like they were made for each other. When they ran out of air, they pulled away from each other, letting their foreheads touch.
"Do you believe Juvia now?"
"Of course I believe you."
She hadn't expected to find comfort after the heartbreaking news, but now she was glad she did. Juvia found someone who loved and appreciated her for who she was.
