Title: "Safety You Gave Me"
Author: tokiya-kun18
Fan-base: Twilight
Pairing: Jasper Cullen/Alice Cullen
A new danger is approaching…
I saw it all coming; the visions came crushing down upon me. I was unaware of its suddenness. It made me at lost.
It made me lose concentration.
"Why?" I muttered to myself, absorbing all possibilities available to grasp. An explanation is what I need; I need to stumble upon it. Even for just a moment.
… I must warn them…
I ran as fast as I could with my body.
"I have to go back," I chanted in my head, until for what seemed to be hours other than seconds.
I need to get back to Carlisle and the others, quickly. There's no time to waste.
I have to tell them.
My figure—my sense and feel to humans is nothing but a sudden gust of wind when I ran past them. They'll look surprised but let it pass. Yes, just like that. No more, as if none is gained.
They are pretty oblivious to the real world around them.
But we can't blame them, right? Supernatural beings—like us vampires—don't exist in their three-dimensional world, as they speak. We only exist in horror films and such. Stupid. But I did have the same thing in mind when I was still human… wasn't I? I don't know for sure. I can't remember.
I have to… They have to… No, I have to get out of here. They want me. Aro wants me. But I can't just betray my family…
I continue to run in fear, pushing myself to my limits. As if I have one.
This is far too important than worrying over some weakness, I thought.
I'm half-aware of another vampire trailing behind me; trying to catch up. But I wasn't going to stop to take a look…
The load's too heavy. The burden's suffocating.
The Volturi… They're coming back but why? Are they coming back to collect me? How ironic.
I came to an abrupt stop as the vampire who was following me, overtook and paused in front of me.
I stared at the figure for less than twenty seconds before having an idea who it is.
"Jasper," I whispered, slightly gasping when I recognized him.
He walked gently to my side, reading my mood. He stopped to his tracks when he was about two feet away from me.
"Tell me," he demanded. "What's wrong?"
I pursed my lips, not wanting to tell him. "Nothing. Nothing at all, Jasper." I tried to sound convincing to his ears. "Come on, let's go back. I was only surprised by something passing by."
Oh great, now I'm sounding like Bella.
He sighed, "Alice, what did you see?" I know what he's referring to, but I'm not willing enough to answer back. "Please, tell me," he pressed.
I couldn't keep up with the ridiculous charade any longer. "The Volturi," I said, and he understood quickly, although he flinched at the name.
Powerful. Fearless. Immortal. Respected. Any adjective befitting to describe them.
With my mind wandering all around the place, I didn't notice Jasper hugging me securely in his arms. It feels like it's the first time he'd done this over hundreds of years…
"Don't worry," he assured me, "I'll protect you, like you did to me." He looked right in to my softening panicked eyes and said, "I will never let them get their hands on you…"
It sounds extremely out-of-character with both of them, doesn't it? And the whole one-shot is confusing, right…? Gah! I'll do better next time. :~) It's my first attempt with Jasper/Alice, actually…
