"You're too slow..."

Sonic could barely breathe. Shadow was stuck in chaos control. All Shadow could see is a figure in a Vantablack cape. It looked like a tall hedgehog. Sonic was going to die, the world would come to a miserable end. But only shadow could save the world. Evil or not, it was his only bet. With the last of Sonic's breath, he spit into the figure's eye. (Sonic can see the figures face, but Shadow can't, because he is behind him.) The figure lost his temper, forgetting about Shadow for a few seconds. This was it; Sonic died.

"Shadow, where is Shadow!? no... no... NO!"

Shadow was trying to breathe softly. He only had the energy to move a few meters away from the figure. The figure left the area, Shadow hid himself very well. Shadow moved a little and suddenly, the figure teleported back to Sonic, assuming Shadow wanted to revive/mourn over Sonic. Shadow had no intention of doing so. and while the figure was distracted over the body, he ran away. Streets are on fire, and the dark night is more intimidating than ever. Shadow rushed over to Tails house - he was the closest.

"Sonic is... is dead!" Shadow cried out desperately. He wasn't feeling well.

"Sonic? You are Sonic" Tails said with a confused expression. Shadow quickly looked at himself. Same old Shadow.

"I'm not Sonic! I'm Shadow"

"I'm afraid I don't know a Shadow"

Shadow knows something is wrong. He explained to Tails what happened and how the real Sonic died.

"What was (the figure's) name?" Tails asked

"Aftermath. He was a hedgehog like us. He managed to choke Sonic out. I am his rival, Shadow. He must've done something to make you forget. Look I'll teleport you-" Shadow pulls out an emerald, and with a shocked face, throws it far. "Tails, Tornado, now!"

"Give me a while to warm it u-"

"We have no time, Aftermath can sense every emerald! I've been hiding its signal the whole time."

"How?" Tails and Shadow get into the tornado

-3 days ago-

Dr. Eggman stole the Master Emerald "Haha, now with the 7 chaos emeralds and the master emerald, I can make eggmanland."

Shadow and Sonic burst in to Eggman's lab "Give it up, Eggman!" Eggman had the emeralds underground. Then, an explosion underground. "What did you two knuckleheads do?!" Eggman shouted. "Not us this time" Sonic said with a smug face. Shadow was blown back, it was Sonic, Eggman and a new challenger, Aftermath. Eggman managed to run away with his escape pod.

"Son ic and Shadow... Prime users of the Chaos Emeralds. I will lay waste to your world with flames and destruction. I am the chaos that balances your world."

Sonic rushed at him. Aftermath took his cape off and Sonic ran into it, cutting his speed in half.

"Shadow, now!" Sonic said. Shadow took Aftermath's cape and one emerald.

"Chaos Control" Aftermath froze Shadow in time. "Where did he put that emerald?" Aftermath couldnt sense the emerald when the cape was around it. Sonic gained his speed back and knocked out Aftermath, stopping the chaos control on Shadow. They ran away to plan their next attack.

"I have a bad feeling about this" Shadow explained to Sonic.

"He can't take the both of us. Plus his chaos control range is very small, he could hardly cover your whole body with it. We can't let him gain any more power"

Sounds easy but, they couldn't find him. Neither Sonic or Shadow. Until today. He had enough power to beat hm. Beside Aftermath were six blackened emeralds.

"How are we going to beat him then?" Tails asked.

"Beat him? No, I dont think you understand. He killed Sonic"

Shadow picked up the emerald he threw out of panic and wrapped it in the cape.

"Soni- Shadow... we should pick up Sonic's body, I have a plan"
