Chapter 1

Alone. He was alone. He was not under the protection of Master Shik anymore. His best friend was separated from him and now he was stuck in a small transparisteel barrack, made of scrapped starfighters, with hundreds of Jedi that he had never seen before in his life. His lightsaber was taken from him and destroyed. He knew there was no point in trying to use the Force; he could see the Ysalamiri, lizard-like creatures that prevented use of the Force, perched on the rafters above him. To the left of his bunk was another bunk containing a strange-looking, alien species that resembled a cat; it looked like a Cathar, but he was not sure. To his left, yet another bunk with a Duros sleeping soundly upon it.

The young apprentice left his bunk and quietly walked to the exit of the barrack. He could not see, for it was pitch-black outside, but he could smell it; the smell of freshly burnt Jedi flesh. He knew that they were burning them, but he wasn't sure why. He did not know what the Jedi had done to deserve such a terrible fate. Nevertheless, on the day when the Galactic Republic had sent troops around the galaxy to find and capture all the Jedi, no one stopped them from achieving their goal. And now, every single force-user who lived on a planet under the influence of the Republic slept on these transparisteel bunks and did hard labor every day.

It was obvious that, tomorrow, his group was next on the list of Jedi to exterminate, however none of his bunk-mates seemed to want to do anything about it.

Just then, he saw a glimmer of metal from the barrack across the camp. And after that, an orange blade of energy ignited and snap-hissed loud enough to wake the whole camp, or so it seemed. He recognized the unique pole-arm lightsaber from a mile away. It was the blade of his best friend Alleesha.

He couldn't believe it. "Alleesha," he called in the loudest whisper he could. She did not seem to hear him. He slowly stepped out of his barrack and made his way across the camp as obscurely as possible. When he made his way up to his former sparring partner she just stared at him. "Alleesha, come on. Let's get out of here," he said. Still, she just stared at him. "We need to try and help these other Jedi. How did you manage to get your lightsaber?" he continued. Suddenly Alleesha drilled him with the hilt of her lightsaber, and performed a well-executed leg sweep to put him on the ground. She uttered the words "Those who don't obey are destroyed." Her eyes were an unnatural red. Finally she blinked as if snapping out of a trance, her eyes returning to their beautiful shade of green, and said, "Meybil? Is that you? I didn't recognize you at first. We have to get out of here. They aren't just making the Jedi do work. They…". Just then, a blue stun bolt soared right past her face and she turned her lightsaber just in time to reflect back towards the gun that shot it. A whole station of guards was headed towards the two Jedi, each one with an E-11 standard issue rifle set for stun in their hand. "I've got a bad feeling about this." Meybil said right before he was hit by a stun bolt and crashed to the ground.
