She doesn't know what possesed her to do it really. She was bored, and pregnant, and Arthur was out working. She nothing to do. Nothing. And so what she needed, she mused, what she really needed, was a project. Something to keep her busy and stop her from going mad. And killing her extraordinarily annoying Aunt Muriel, with her own bare hands. Funny things hormones. Not that Molly had any problem with them. It wasn't Mollys fault if everyone had decided to do everything wrong in an extremely irritating way. It was hardly her fault if she felt like commiting mass murder. So a project would be a good idea. Now choosing a project, that was going to be difficult. She didn't want to study. It wasn't as if she wanted to go back to school. So no. Nothing like studying. But it still had to be something more or less constructive. And fun! Molly thought about it for a little while. And that was when her gaze fell on the knitting needles that her mother had forgotten only the day before. Knitting. That could be fun. Yes! It was perfect! She would learn to knit, and she would make something for Arthur. It was perfect, and Molly felt a surge of excitement as she imagined Arthurs face has she handed him the warm hand-knitted jumper, she'd knitted for him. As she got up to fetch the needles, she thought about what color she should choose. Purple? No, too classic. Orange? Too flashy. Green? Yes. Green was a terrific idea! A green jumper! It would be perfect! Now if she remembered correctly first she had to make a loop around the first needle, then again around the second...
Later on that evening when Arthur came home, Molly was in tears. Knitting was a lot harder than she thought it would be, and the jumper she'd tried to make hadn't gone according to plan at all. She'd ended up with two very lumpy green sleeves, and seeing as by that time she was completely disheartened, she'd found herself turning them into socks instead. And so when Arthur came into the sitting room she just looked at the pair of miserable, pathetic looking socks on her lap and burst into tears. When Arthur finally managed to understand what was the matter he started to laugh. He took the socks from Molly are put them on. Then he gave her a kiss told her they were lovely, and that she shouldn't cry for such silly things.
Years later Molly is an expert in jumper making, and Arthur has an entire collection, in every color, in his wardrobe. He still has that lumpy pair of bright green socks. But he keeps them for special occasions. After all, he often says to Molly, they are his favorite, and so he couldn't just wear them any old day.
