How the Clans Became to Be
"Come here little ones ," Goldenheart rasped to the shivering kits. "It's warm in here and I'll tell you a story." Once the two kits were snuggled up in the elders den, Goldenheart began the story.
"Long, long ago, before the river ran and the hills rose, there was two cats named Mist and Grass. Remember, there was no Clans then, so cats fended for themselves." "But what about the warrior code?" A small gray kit asked. "It wasn't used then," the patient elder told the kits ."Now no more interruptions. Mist was a gray she-cat, and she caught her prey by swimming. Grass was a light brown tom, and he stalked prey in the forest. One day, Mist and Grass met. They both wanted to make a group of cats, working together and helping the weak. So one night as they hunted, cats of StarClan came to them. They explained the warrior code, and Mist and Grass swore to uphold it. They made them Miststar and Grassstar, and together they built a Clan. It was long and hard work, but they managed to settle in. But all leaders spend their nine live d sometime , and Miststar and Grassstar died defending their Clan. Their two kits were rivals, and they couldn't live in harmony. Fog and Reed fought a very bloody battle, with their followers dying in tons. Then they looked and saw what they had done, and they agreed to split up. Fog took the forest on one side of the river, and she led MistClan. Reed took the moors, and he ruled GrassClan. That is why we have two Clans." Now the tortoiseshell tom spoke up. "But why couldn't Reed and Fog live together?" Goldenheart shook his head. "I guess we will never know. Now get some sleep, my little warriors. I will watch over you."
