Prologue

Yellow eyes shone from the darkness. A full, silver moon hovered in the sky, glowing ominously behind a pine forest, making the trees look dark and hollow in it's light. Few, glittering stars sparkled in the darkness, unmoving beacons of hope against the lifeless black canvas. Before the pine trees, was a figure. It's dark shadowed outline was brightened by the moon's shine, it's mysterious, rounded yellow eyes glaring into the shaded darkness of the forest.
A second figure approached, slowly padding out into the moonlight, revealing a pair of staring, icy pearls.
"Well, what do we have here?" The voice was laced with a sickening mocking. It was a female. The first figure, yellow eyes still shining began to creep towards the other. "Ice… Long time no see, hasn't it?" She snarled, pelt prickling as she growled in the direction of the blue-eyed wolf.
"Hasn't it," He replied, simply, seeming to shrug off the female's warning growl. "Golden," he continued, nodding towards the female with minor acknowledgement. "You wanted to see me?" The sandy-yellow pelted wolf nodded towards the moon that was beginning to rise to the centre of the sky.
"Yes," She growled. "I assumed you'd rather meet under a full moon. We all know how…" She paused, making sure the effect sunk in. "Difficult," she continued, "about your 'battle scars'." She laughed, still snarling. That had done it. Just like lightning, Ice reared upwards, towering threateningly over the female wolf. His ghostly white fur was spiked in all directions, an obvious, dark scar carved over his right eye. He growled, menacingly at Golden, who had shrunk back a little at the white wolf's sudden manner.
"Stop playing games!" He demanded, waving a paw into the air at the moon. "We don't have all night, do we?" Calming himself, Ice seated himself on a dark, smooth stone. "What do you want? Or do I have no business here?"
"The Desert Pack will not wait any longer." Golden said, finally, her golden eyes flaring like a wildfire. "Give us some of the Forest Pack territory, or we will take it by force!" Her growl echoed throughout the clearing, sending birds flying into the sky, their silhouettes darkened against the moon.
"Why do you want some of my pack's territory? You have enough of your own! Your wolves couldn't hunt on our land, even you must know that." Ice replied, a little confused at Golden's demands. Surely, she couldn't be so stupid as to want Forest Pack territory? It was unreasonable. Her wolves couldn't survive in the forest.
"I've said what I need to." She glared towards the white-pelted wolf, fur still rising on her sandy back. "You have one moon." She continued. "Give me your territory, or we will meet in battle!" Breathing heavily, she rose over Ice. "If you want to keep your wolves alive," she spoke in a harsh, fierce whisper. "Then you know what to do."
In a sudden flash, Golden retreated into the night, leaving the Forest Pack leader to stand there, silently, still thinking of her words. If you want to keep your wolves alive, then you know what to do.
The moon watched silently above.
