Ren is one of my favourite characters from DMMD but he only really goes with Aoba so, since i wanted to write a story with him, this happened! Weather it was a good thing or a bad thing, you decide! XD I should mention that this happened after the events at Platinum Jail and Ren is still stuck in his Allmate body despite Aoba finding who he really is and them having fun on the memory of the beach. (Ren's route in the game!) I hope you enjoy and please review! ENJOY! XD
Also, i do NOT own DRAMAtical Murder or any of the characters!
Trap Door
'Aoba, perhaps we should take another route….' Ren glanced wearily behind him at the frowning human before turning back to the decrepit alleyway winding before them.
'No. We need to take the fastest possible route if we want to make this delivery in time. This is it, right?' Aoba tried to sound braver than he felt but he couldn't help clutching the strap of his bag. He'd heard only bad stories about this side of town but he couldn't afford to miss this delivery. He needed the money if he wanted to buy his granny that TV for her birthday. The one they had was barely functioning at all anymore and Aoba could see her getting exasperated with the piece of junk more and more. She was too stubborn to admit defeat and he knew she didn't want him to spend his money on something like that but Aoba doubted all that frustration was good for her health…
'Yes… ' Ren was reluctant to answer but there was no mistaking it. According to his GPS this was the fastest route to their destination. The canine Allmate switched his tail once, his anxiety plain to see.
'Well standing around is not helping anyone so let's just get this done with. Things will work out.' Ren thought Aoba was trying to convince himself but he kept that to himself and began hesitantly walking ahead instead. The soft pads of his feet made no sounds as he hoped over piles of rubble and stale puddles. The flanking buildings all but blocked out the sun and Ren heard Aoba stumble a few times. He continued to turn and check that the man was behind him, afraid Aoba would accidentally take a wrong turn and they would get separated. They didn't encounter a soul as they advanced deeper into the gaping darkness.
Aoba could barely make out the contours of Ren's silhouette. His dark fur completely blended in with the dim surroundings as if the dog deliberately went incognito. He would catch the Allmate's worried eyes occasionally and that would steel his nerves. He wasn't a jittery fellow but the deserted alley was enough to make the sturdiest of men supress a shiver. He figured even Mink would have difficulty keeping cool in the eerie setting. He let his mind drift to thoughts of his friends while he automatically placed one foot in front of the other. He needed the distraction to prevent his over-active imagination from spooking him out… He was this close to jumping at his own shadow!
After they took down Toue and Platinum Jail went under drastic re-construction, his life seemed to settle down a bit. He was back to working at the junk shop and he still lived with his granny. Clear continued to pop into his life whenever he 'heard his voice'. Mink was gone but Aoba wasn't worried about the stoic giant. He knew the man would come back one day. Koujaku was back to being a hairdresser, occasionally sleeping over at his place still, but Aoba could see a new lightness in him that had been missing before. He figured that was due to his successful Scrap. Noiz was also far more sociable than before, now that he had feeling in his body like most people. Aoba even managed to drag him out of his apartment to go drinking with him, Koujaku and Mizuki sometimes. Mizuki was all better now and he'd bore no grudges against Aoba for failing his Scrap, even going as far as to turn a blind eye to Noiz drinking at his bar despite being underage.
Yep, things worked out pretty well for almost everyone. A sombre expression darkened Aoba's mood when he thought of his brother, Sei. He wondered if things would have turned differently if Tae had saved Sei instead of him… Would he have broken so completely under Toue's merciless experiments or would he have been strong enough to wait until Sei saved him? Sei hadn't even held a grudge against Toue for his tortured life and Aoba couldn't comprehend how his brother managed to be so forgiving. He himself still felt a surge of anger whenever he thought of the elegant billionaire and he'd had a relatively short encounter with him. He sucked in a breath to try and calm himself, the cool air doing wonders for his rising blood pressure.
'Aoba!-' The boy managed to widen his eyes at Ren's suddenly interrupted warning before the world began dissolving around him. He immediately recognised the feeling and he cringed. He hadn't been paying attention and now he was being sucked into a Drive-By. The last thing he needed was a Rhyme battle but there was little he could do as his surroundings began to morph. He blinked and when he opened his eyes again he was standing in a blank field. He looked around him but he could only see blemishless white stretching endlessly in every direction. There was no shape to his surroundings and when Aoba glanced at his feet he felt a surge of Vertigo wash over him. His legs grew weak with the dizziness and he stumbled.
'Aoba! Are you okay?' Ren, in his human form, was there to steady him before he hit the ground. Aoba leaned into the touch, grateful for the powerful arms holding his.
'Yeah, just got a little dizzy. What is this place?' Aoba had never been in a place so blank before. There wasn't even a grid to at least give the illusion of a physical space.
'It's a Rhyme field though it's unlike any I've ever seen before.' Aoba knew all of that but he felt calmer listening to Ren's vice. He looked around him again, wondering where his opponent was. In a place like that there was nowhere to hide but he couldn't see any sign of anyone else other than Ren.
'Ren, can you get us out of here?' He turned to look pleadingly at the tattooed man but his face fell when Ren deliberately refused to meet his eyes.
'I already tried but it's impossible. The only way to get out is to defeat the creator of the field or for a third party to hack the battle from the outside. I scanned the field and can't find any sign of life other than us.' Aoba tried to wrap his mind around what Ren was saying.
'So, you're telling me we're trapped here with no way to get out?' Ren looked dejectedly at his bare feet.
'Yes.' Aoba felt panic ignite inside him and he turned helplessly to search the white arena with his own eyes but he already knew he wouldn't find anyone.
'This can't be happening! What are we going to do?' He was trembling and a moment later he felt Ren's hands on his upper arms. He turned to look at his Allmate, detecting a flicker of fear in the gold eyes. That scared him most of all. Ren was the rational one, the smart one. If he felt fear then the situation was indeed dire.
'Aoba, it's going to be fine. Just before we entered the field I managed to send out a distress call.' Aoba's heart beat faster with the fresh hope.
'To whom?' Ren was hesitant to answer and Aoba felt his spirits sink with each silent second.
'I don't know. I only had a second to act so I sent it to a random Allmate on your friends' list. I didn't have time to say anything in the message but they will know it's an S.O.S. and they will be able to track our current location.'
'What if you sent it to Mink's Allmate?' Ren continued to burn holes into the immaterial ground at his feet. Aoba could picture his puppy ears going down, slumped as if under an invisible weight. 'What if it's Clara?' Aoba noticed the flicker of absolute fear across Ren's features and he smiled to himself. He lifted the taller man's chin so he would look into his eyes. 'It'll be fine Ren. You really are the best for thinking of sending a call at all. What would I do without you?'
'Aoba…' Before the human had time to say anything else he felt arms envelop him in a loving, strong embrace. Ren was so very grateful Aoba wasn't angry at him. He wanted to hold the man close and never let him go. He felt Aoba return the hug, albeit with a far gentles touch, and they stayed like that for a moment.
'Ren, are you feeling alright?' Aoba didn't want the embrace to end but he was worried for his Allmate. Ren withdrew slowly, his gold eyes glancing away sheepishly. A faint blush coloured his cheeks and he was regretting not being in his battle gear. At least that would hide some of his traitorous expressions…
'Yes. I was just glad you didn't hate me.' Aoba's eyes narrowed and he tried to reach for Ren again but the other stepped away hastily. He refused to look at Aoba and the human didn't like it.
'Ren, I could never hate you! You're my closest friend and, better yet, you're a part of me. You know me better than anyone else and you're been with me longer than anyone. You always looked after me! And we… Last time we talked we….' Aoba began blushing furiously and couldn't quite bring himself to say it. During the heist on Oval Tower, Aoba had to Scrap himself in order to save Ren from being corrupted by a bug and that's when he'd made the shocking discovery that Ren was actually a part of his conscious. He learned of Ren's love for him and later, in the memory of the beach, they'd made love. The memory still haunted him and it hurt every time he thought of it. They both knew they could never be together since Ren was stuck in the body of his Allmate but they couldn't deny their love for one another.
'It's too painful Aoba. I don't know how to deal with those emotions.' Ren was barely speaking above a whisper and Aoba had to strain to hear. He wished he could reassure the man but he was feeling the same way. The only time they could even touch while Ren was in human form was during a Rhyme battle and since that reminded Aoba of Sei he avoided them with even more fervour than before. Besides, once they finished the battle they would automatically be spit back into the normal world so it was only rubbing salt into their bleeding wounds.
'I-'
'Aoba? Can you hear me?' A voice made the two jump and they turned to see who spoke but found themselves just as alone as before.
'Noiz? Where are you?'
'Good. At least there's a way to establish a connection between us.' Aoba realized the hacker's voice was coming from a different direction this time and he failed not to jump again. It was unnerving!
'Noiz, what's happening? Where are we?!'
'Your physical bodies are at my apartment. I need my gear to hack this field and get you two out of there. Usagimodoki got your Allmate's distress call and tracked your location. Luckily you were close to where I live.' Aoba still didn't know where the hacker lived. He was very secretive about that for some reason…
'Will you be able to get us out?' His voice betrayed his excitement. Noiz was their best bet if hacking was the only way to escape the field and he smiled gratefully at Ren for sending that message. Ren returned the smile but it was small and pathetic.
'Whoever did this knew their stuff but so do I. I can hack it but it will take a while. You might as well make yourself confortable. Any last questions before I start working? Once I do that I won't be able to talk to you.'
'Just one. What is this place? It doesn't feel like any Rhyme field I've even been in.' Aoba needed to know where he was, if only to get a little peace of mind.
'It's a Rhyme trap and a rare one at that. Only a good hacker can set them. They're designed to forcefully bring someone into an empty field and trap them there with no opponent. I think they call it a Trap Door. Those who fall into them usually end up going insane or get killed in the real world. It's a good thing you sent that call.' Aoba paled.
'Who would do something like that?...' He didn't get an answer right away and he could clearly picture Noiz shrugging with a bored expression on his pierced face.
'Psychopaths? Setting a Trap Door is highly illegal, up there with intent to kill.' Aoba felt a stray shiver run up his spine and he hugged his arms around him. He saw Ren take a step towards him from the corner of his eye but then the other stopped, his eyes falling back to the ground.
'Please get us out of here Noiz.' Aoba was desperate to leave the white field. He felt like a patient at a metal asylum and he understood why others went crazy from being stuck in here for prolonged amounts of time.
'Alright. Sit tight.' Deafening silence surrounded them and Aoba knew Noiz checked out. He tried to control the tremors running up and down his skin but he was afraid. He regretted forgetting his coat at the shop more so than ever through he doubted the added layer of cloth would do much. It wasn't the cold which made him shake after all…
'Aoba, are you cold?' He didn't turn to look at Ren, still holding himself from closing the distance between them, as he shook his head in the negative. Ignoring the nausea of Vertigo, he sat down and crossed his legs in front of him. He wanted to make himself as small as possible though he didn't know what he was hiding from. After a few moments he heard soft steps near him and felt Ren sit beside him, his bare arm rubbing against his side. He didn't resist when Ren drew him close and wound his arm around his shoulder. Aoba rested his head on the inked shoulder and let his eyes close, taking the time to relish the intimate contact. Everything about Ren was calming and each breath steadied his nerves further and further until he felt like he could slip into a restless sleep.
'I missed you.' He felt Ren tense at the confession. They both knew what he meant. Ren was always there but it was one thing to have Ren follow him around as a puppy and another thing entirely to feel long fingers press into his shoulders, pulling him closer. Aoba wondered if he was a masochist. He was only hurting himself by indulging in his feelings for Ren but he wanted to feel him again, like they did on the beach. Ren didn't say anything but he nuzzled Aoba's hair and he knew his contradictory emotions were being mirrored. He felt ticklish whenever someone touched his hair, the pain sensors dulled for some reason since Sei's death, and small shivers rippled over his skin.
'Is this the right thing to do?' Aoba sighed and looked up at Ren, their eyes meeting. He studied the piercing gold gaze which he saw so little and moved a hand over Ren's cheek, needing to confirm that he was really sitting beside him.
'I don't know and I don't care. I can't fight how I feel about you Ren… I couldn't do it before and I definitely can't do it now.' Ren's expression looked pained for a moment before he seemed to come to a resolution of sorts. When he leaned in, Aoba met his lips eagerly and immediately felt heat surge through him at the contact. The hold on his shoulder tightened and Aoba gasped into the kiss, giving Ren's tongue access to his mouth. A moan, more animal than human, rolled off Ren's tongue and reverberated through Aoba. He reached for Ren's face, running his fingertips over the pale cheek with nothing but pure love.
'Aoba… I want to embrace you.' Ren hesitated for a moment, his eyes refusing to meet the human's, though Aoba knew exactly what Ren was thinking. He gently pulled the reluctant gaze to his and smiled reassuringly, his eyes already darkening with the lust he was barely supressing.
'It's alright. I want that too.' Aoba ran his palm down Ren's chest, almost shyly making skin contact and he felt the way his living consciousness shivered at his words. He closed his eyes when Ren pressed their mouths back together desperately and joined his hands behind the broader back, pressing their bodies closer to each other. Whatever reluctance Ren had seemed to have evaporated into thin air and one of his hands ventured under Aoba's blue blouse, leaving a trail of heat behind it. Aoba moaned approvingly when he felt his shirt being lifted so the majority of his skin was exposed. He could feel Ren's body heat against his skin and it sent him wild.
Suddenly it wasn't enough to only kiss. They both knew their time together was limited and, knowing Noiz, it wouldn't be long before the Trap Door was hacked and forced open. They couldn't waste a second and with that in mind Aoba began prying at Ren's trousers frantically. His fingers were clumsy and he was still distracted by the other's demanding tongue so he had no idea how he actually managed to open the leather black pants. When he cautiously rubbed his hand against the growing erection he physically felt Ren groan into his mouth and he grew bolder. He enclosed the length with his fingers and moved along it, noting how each movement send Ren into a frenzy. He had to break away from the captivating lips and gasp for air when he felt hands on his own length, squeezing just hard enough to push the breath out of his lungs. He'd been so focused on giving Ren pleasure he hadn't noticed his own trousers being opened. Lips latched to his throat and sucked hungrily, teeth scraping over the flesh in a maddeningly effective way. Aoba had no idea how Ren was so good at what he was doing, or why everything he touched seemed to instantly catch fire but he was grateful for it.
He couldn't concentrate on a rhythm, not while Ren was making him throw his head back and moan in ecstasy, and his hand movements ceased somewhere along the way. The lips moved to his chest, sucking on his nipple and nipping on it while fingers tightened at the base of his cock. Aoba bit his lower lip but that did nothing to stop the wanton noises streaming from his larynx. He was vaguely aware of his trousers being pulled down his legs and he unconsciously moved his limbs to aid the process, sighing with satisfaction when the hand returned back to his member. Ren's fingers were slippery and he figured that was his pre-cum at work. It was almost embarrassing how much he craved the other man and he wanted to tell Ren that but he could hardly breathe, forget about forming a coherent sentence. Aoba twisted his head to the side and pressed the back his hand against his mouth, biting into his own flesh in a futile attempt to muffle his moans, when Ren's free hand moved along the crevice of his ass until it was teasing his opening. He knew what was coming next and he was eager for it.
Ren made sure his finger was sufficiently sleeked with Aoba's pre-cum to make the intrusion as painless as possible. He wished they could have been more prepared since being responsible for causing Aoba any sort of pain was torture to him but it wasn't like they could plan their encounters in advance. The thought saddened him but he forcibly pushed it away when he heard a guttural noise of pleasure and his sharp ears twitched at the arousing sound. He kept his sharp eyes fixed on Aoba's ecstatic features as he began pushing a finger inside the tight tunnel of muscles. He remembered how amazing his master felt around his cock before and it was all he could do not to ravish the man right then and there. Aoba frowned slightly as he pushed further in but he didn't see any serious signs of discomfort so he continued. He remembered exactly where Aoba's prostate was from before and wasted no time in ramming against it, making the other forget even about the slight discomfort he felt before. Ren felt his blood pound into his eardrums and his mouth went dry at the sight of Aoba unrevealing because of him. He pushed faster and harder, adding a second finger, inside the swallowing entrance until Aoba was bucking his hips into his hand, silently begging him for something more filling.
Aoba gasped when hands left his ass and his cock to clasp on his hips and twist him around. He felt Ren slide behind him, his hot breath burning his throat, and a hand lifted up one of his legs in a beautiful display of flexibility. He had a split second to blink before he felt Ren's member nudge against his stretched entrance, pressing inside with shocking ease. Every inch of him seemed to mould against Ren's larger built and he was intoxicated with the feel of him. He curled his fingers into fists, wishing there was something material he could hold onto while Ren began moving in and out of him. He heard the other groan his name into his ear and it was bliss, especially since Ren's already deep voice was a feral growl twisted by desire. He wanted to turn his head and look at Ren but before he had time to do more than open his eyes, Ren began moving at a breakneck speed, knocking any coherent thought right out of his head. Aoba had never been fucked so thoroughly to the best of his recollection, not even when he'd been sleeping around with anyone who captured his interest, back in his wilder years as Sly Blue. He knew he was yelling out Ren's name but all he could hear was the tempo of the cock drilling into him repeatedly with increased urgency.
He felt Ren's fingers dig harder into his thigh and he knew he was close. He didn't know which pleasure to concentrate on but he knew that if he didn't do something he was in serious danger of spontaneously combusting. Ren was biting on the shell of his ear and whispering his name over and over as if making sure Aoba wouldn't be so consumed he would forget it. In the end he wasn't sure what pushed him over the edge but suddenly Aoba's blurry vision seemed to blank and he was desperately gasping for air. The release was so acute it was almost painful and the weak support of his shaking arms crumbled below him. He heaved for breath but it kept getting pushed out of him by Ren's hazardous thrusts, strong enough to jerk his whole pliant body. It didn't take long before he felt hot cum shoot deep inside him, marking him permanently as Ren's in the most intimate way possible. Ren froze for an instant, until the last of his seed was spent, before he collapsed beside Aoba with a sated groan. He placed a gentle hand on the smaller man's angular hip, simply to feel the proof that he was really there, while they both struggled for breath.
'We should get ready. Noiz is probably nearly done by now…' Aoba didn't bother to mask his disappointment. While he had been eager to escape the Rhyme Field before, now all he wanted was to be trapped there forever with Ren. He wondered when, if ever, they would get the opportunity to embrace again and he felt his heart break. He felt fingers run soothingly along his side but he didn't want to turn and look at Ren or he was certain he would burst into tears. He was already struggling to keep back the sobs and if he saw the docile gold eyes he doubted he could win that fight.
'Yes…' Yet neither moved for another minute. Ren placed a soft, loving kiss just below Aoba's ear and he heard the other sigh softly. 'I love you Aoba.' Against his better judgement, Aoba wiggled his body until he was facing Ren. He lost himself in the liquid gold of his penetrating eyes as he ran his fingers over the markings on his face.
'Me too Ren. Maybe that's enough. Maybe that's all we need.' A small, soft smile slowly stretched Ren's lips. Aoba mirrored it despite his growing wish to curl up in a ball and weep like a child at the cruelty of it all.
'Aoba, the Trap Door is nearly open. In a matter of minutes we'll be back in the real world where you're a human and I'm just your Allmate. I'll always be by your side and I'll always love you but you can't live like this. You'll just suffer if you hold on to your feelings for me.' Aoba listened silently, knowing Ren was just speaking his own thoughts out loud. He sighed heavily and sat up. He felt Ren do the same but didn't turn to look back at him.
'I don't want to think about that now. I just wish it wasn't like this…' He turned and leaned towards Ren until their foreheads were gently pressed together in their trademark gesture of affection.
'That makes two of us.' They looked into each other's understanding eyes as the blank world around them began to crumble and dissolve. Aoba closed his eyes and he opened them again he was in a dimply lit, unfamiliar room. He blinked, trying to focus and figure out his surroundings but all he understood was that he was stretched out on a bed and Ren was gone.
'How are you feeling?' He turned his head to glance at Noiz who was studying him with his usually bored, green eyes. The younger boy was sitting cross legged on the floor beside the bed, surrounded by more screens than Aoba had ever seen in one place. The room was bear with the exception of the technology and the bed and a window with the lime green curtains pulled shut. Aoba briefly wondered why Noiz lived so Amishly when he knew for a fact he made more money on one of his information gathering jobs than he did in half a year of honest work. Then again, the blond was always a strange one…
'Soar and tired.' Aoba ran his hands over his face, feeling drained. He was certain that if he closed his eyes he would be asleep before he knew it.
'Entering and exiting a Trap Door is a strain on someone's psychic. You'll feel fine after you sleep it off.' Noiz was turning his attention back to one of the screens even before he finished that sentence. Aoba was already familiar with the hacker's antics and he knew the guy wasn't being rude, on purpose. The fact that he didn't tell Aoba to leave meant he was welcomed to sleep there if he wanted. When it came to Noiz it was all about hearing what wasn't said…. No wonder he and Koujaku were at each other's throats every chance they got.
'Thanks Noiz. I'm really grateful to you.' His only response was a dismissive humph but Aoba could tell the exasperating brat was happy. The corners of his own lips curved into a tiny smile as he struggled to sit up. Ren was curled up beside him, in sleep mode, his front paws tucked daintily under his head. He picked up the Allmate and checked his energy reserves. Ren was completely drained and Aoba wondered if he should ask Noiz to charge him before he left but then thought better of it. He was still raw from his time together with Ren in the Rhyme field and he doubted he had the strength to keep his crumbling heart from breaking apart altogether if he heard his voice.
'Are you going back to work?' Noiz didn't turn back to him, his fingers dancing over the keyboards before him like whirlwinds, but Aoba heard the touch of concern to his tone. It was almost imperceptible, but it was there.
'No. I'm going home and straight to bed.' Aoba swung his legs over the edge of the bed, trying to ignore how they felt like lead. Holding Ren gently to his chest with one arm, he reached for his bag and swung it over his head. Noiz watched him from the corner of his eye, narrowing them when Aoba swayed on his feet.
'Are you sure you can get to your home? You look like a drunk.' Aoba rolled his eyes. He made a note to self to have another talk with Noiz about that internal filter of his…
'I'll be fine. It's only walking… Even I can manage that much.' Aoba was at the door and Noiz watched him silently. He acknowledged his last thanks with a curt nod of his head. Once the door was closed behind Aoba he turned his attention back to the screen before him.
'Did you do what I told you?' The familiar cheery face of his lead rabbit popped on the screen and it jumped up in the air with excitement.
'Yep, yep! The video feed from the Trap Door has been successfully saved and stored!' Noiz leaned back, his back resting against the bed frame as he mentally ran over the scene of Ren and Aoba together. He'd had no intention of snooping but while Aoba hadn't been able to see him, he'd had a perfect visual of the other guy. He just didn't mention it… Noiz was an information broker by nature and he developed a professional curiosity along the way. He couldn't help but wonder at what he'd seen, especially since he had a certain, specific interest in Aoba.
'Usagimodoki, do you think we can create a Rhyme field and upload the settings into an Allmate so they could manipulate it?' The rabbit tilted his head to the side, a large question mark popping on the screen.
'Theoretically that shouldn't be a problem but adjusting it to a specific Allmate alone will be tricky. It will take a lot of time!' The wheels inside Noiz's vast mind were already spinning and he reached his fingers to the keyboards once more. He felt his fingers settle over the keys with a reassuring familiarity.
'I just found our next project.' Noiz's Allmate jumped up excitedly at the prospect.
'Who will be the Allmate in charge of the field?' Noiz began typing bits of code and complicated data began filling the other screens around Usagimodoki's form. Noiz finally found an adequate way to pay his debt to Aoba for Scraping away his inability to feel. He hated owning anything to anyone…
'Ren.'
I don't know... I just wanted Noiz to give them some sort of happy ending. I was supposed to end it on the drama of it all but then my hand slipped... Oh well, I hope it was a fun read and please leave a review if you have the time! XD
HAVE A LOVELY DAY!
