Toshinori blushed deeply as he pieced together all of Enji's actions, and came to the final conclusion.
"You've loved me, for all these years?" He asked softly.
"Yeah," Enji responded stupidly, quickly looking away from the man who had held his heart for almost as long as he'd known him.
Toshinori covered his red face in his hands, while Enji continued looking at his feet. Toshinori took a deep breath and pushed his bangs back from his face.
"But you acted as though you hated me! You constantly pushed me away, said rude things, and then married someone else!" He blurted, moving his hands to emphasize his message.
Enji reached up and rubbed the back of his neck, turning redder and redder with every accusation Toshinori threw at him.
"You think I wanted this? You think I wanted to fall for a guy I could never have, huh?! That I'd be forced to see the one person who makes my heart beat faster than anyone else everywhere? That my parents would accept that their only son was queer?!" He yelled, before covering his mouth in shock. He had forgotten about the last one, it had been so long since he had seen either of his parents
Toshinori gaped at him, before slowly closing his mouth and gently resting his hand on the redhead's shoulder.
"Ah, I didn't realize that you had grown up in… that kind of home. It's… it's different now though, you have children, and… your parents aren't around anymore Enji, so why did you keep up that front?" he questioned gently.
Enji shrugged, scowling at the ground. "It was easier… even after I split up with my wife, it was better to not get my hopes up, to keep them shoved down as far as they could get; because what were the chances of me gaining your affections? Slim-to-none. It was safer to keep my feelings bottled up where no one could hurt them. Kinder to everyone involved."
Toshinori sighed, looking up at the sky before looking back down at Enji.
"You should have told me sooner, I might have been able to do something for you," he whispered. Enji grimaced and shook his head.
"I cannot think about what ifs Toshinori, I made my bed and I will lay in it. The true question that remains is, what will you do now that you know?" He asked, hesitantly.
Electric blue eyes met glacial blue, and Toshinori shrugged, running his hand through his hair.
"I guess we'll have to wait and see" he answered, a soft smile on his face.
Enji shook his head with a sigh, why on earth had he fallen for such a strange man.
