Hi! So, here is my first fanfic in English.
I'm not very good to write in this language, so be kind please... At least I've try ^^
Christine wakes up with a start.
Her frantic heartbeat and her short breath confirm her first thought: she had a nightmare.
The Louis-Philippe room is in the dark and she can't see anything, even if she knows her room by heart. So why does she think that something is missing?
Of course! Erik is not here.
Usually, when she screams in her sleep, Erik comes in her room to comfort her. He listens patiently to her bad dream while he takes her in his arms then sings softly a lullaby until she falls asleep.
But tonight he is not here.
He told her that he would be outside for most of the night, so if she needs anything she must help herself.
Except that, right now, she needs him.
She doesn't think she can sleep after this nightmare, but she doesn't know what time it is or when Erik will come home.
Anyway she is too afraid to stay in her room alone and especially in the dark, so she stands up, takes her dressing gown and goes to the living room where a fire is still burning in the fireplace, giving to the place a more pleasant atmosphere.
She takes a seat on the couch in front of the fireplace and looks in the flames.
Even if she doesn't want to, her nightmare come back to her mind.
She was on the stage, during a representation of Faust. She had a beautiful dress and her hair was very lovely. The music and the dancing around her was perfect and she made her entrance, her acting was perfect and each step was at the right place. Then she opened her mouth when she had to sing and... nothing. She could not make a single sound, even less a right note. Everybody laughed at her, pointed her with mocking fingers. She looked around with desperate eyes, but no one came to save her.
Then she woke up.
Even if it was just a dream, she feels as she had really lived that horrible moment.
Why is Erik not here to tell her that it is impossible? That she can't lose her voice like that, that he'll never let that kind of things happen to her?
She is craving for his kind embrace.
After a moment, she starts to calm down a little and lays her head on the armrest. Taking a deep breath in, Christine relaxes more. Wait, what is this smell who bring such peace in her stormy brain?
She sniffs once, then twice before finding it: it's Erik's odor!
Without noticing it, Christine had put her head on the side of the couch where Erik usually sits. And so his smell is in the tissue.
And that comforts Christine.
But the odor is so faint! He isn't often enough on the couch to fully soak the fabric. She needs something else.
Rising from her sit, she goes to the piano and sniffs the keys.
No, even if he spends most of his time here, the wood has not kept his smell.
She doesn't think much more when she walks to his room and enters.
Yes, a bit better. Surely, there is something in the room which can bring her peace and make her forget her bad dream.
Making for his dressing room, she opens the door and smells his costumes. Damn it! They smell of soap and cleanliness. Of course his garments are clean, but in her actual state Christine takes that as an insult.
She needs something with his smell if she wants to sleep tonight. Something which is never cleaned up. Something which Erik touches regularly.
Turning around to watch the room, her eyes stop on a particular object. The perfect object.
When Erik comes home later on, he goes to his room and stops to face the strangest sight of his whole life.
Walking slowly in the room, he takes a blanket and covers Christine who is sleeping peacefully, curled up in his coffin, a smile on her lips.
VoilĂ !
I hope you liked it.
