Hey there y'all! I've recently gotten back into fanfiction and decided to jump back in by rewriting an old story of mine from years ago that I never actually finished. I've been working hard on this for awhile and finally have enough done to start publishing it! I'm going to start with just the prologue and first chapter for right now, but plan to update once a week until it's finished.

The stars shone brightly in the cloudless night sky, their image mirrored on a small clear pool of water around which four cats crouched silently. Their pelts seemed to shimmer in the starlight as they sat there, waiting, eyes raised to the sky above them. Then, as if some unseen sign had been given, the ferns around the hollow rustled and cats began to slip out to gather around the pool with the original four.
Only once they had all settled, did one of the four cats speak. "We've gathered you here to discuss the current state of the Clans," the small mottled brown tom mewed, amber gaze sweeping over them. "Too much warrior blood had been spilled lately in pointless battles, but we are unable to put an end to it ourselves. StarClan is not as all powerful as some may believe."
Another of the four, a tortoiseshell she-cat, bowed her head at his words. "Yes Cliffstar speaks true. When we formed our Clans all those seasons ago, none of us believed that our simple rivalry would become what it is now. They are at war; a war that I do not see ending anytime soon without our interference."
"As much as I agree with you, Meadowstar," began the third cat, this one a sleek black tom. "What do you suggest we do? An entire generation of warriors has known nothing but this fighting and hatred since they were kits at their mothers' belly. I don't see an easy end to this."
"Then perhaps it's the kits we need to work with," Meadowstar replied. "If we teach them that bringing peace to the forest is indeed possible…"
"And how would we do that?" The black tom's whiskers twitched, yellow eyes narrowing.
The fourth cat, a pretty brown tabby spoke up. "All of our Clans have young kits, Marshstar. If we each choose one and visit them in dreams, send them visions and messages, we could show them that it for the better of every cat if peace returned."
Meadowstar nodded thoughtfully. "Yes, we could guide them through their training, put their paws on the right path. Perhaps even set up for them to meet and form a friendship so they could see how this is affecting the other Clans."
Foreststar's ear twitched as murmurs of approval rose up among the gathered cats around them.
"There will always be some conflict and squabbling among the Clans, but this mess has gone on far too long," Cliffstar meowed. "This may actually work. If we can convince these kits it is possible, they could persuade others around them to believe in it as well. I am willing to give this a try, what about you Marshstar?"
The black tom was silent for a long moment, his tail twitching thoughtfully. "Yes, this may be the best way," he agreed finally.
"Then it is done. I will choose the first kit." Cliffstar leaned forward and touched his nose to the surface of the pool. The water rippled before revealing the image of a grey tabby kit.
One of the gathered cats gasped. "Cliffstar, are you sure?"
The tabby glanced to the mottled brown warrior who had spoken, and he purred. "I am, Sparrowfur. I know you lost your life before your kits were born and never had a chance to meet them personally, but you watch over their progress as closely as if you were there. Your daughter is a fine choice for this."
Sparrowfur's amber eyes shone with emotion, and he dipped his head to his Clan's founder. "Thank you Cliffstar, I am honored you think so highly of her."
Cliffstar nodded back, before looking to the other founders. "Do I have your approval." When there were no objections, he twitched an ear and the image in the pool faded.
Meadowstar rose next, touching the pool and causing a black shape to appear. "This one is my choice," she mewed. "He is a brave young kit, and the goodness in his heart means he should see the importance of this."
There were murmurs of approval from the gathered warriors, she had made a popular choice, and when the other founders nodded their agreement the black shape faded.
Marshstar touched the pool next. "My choice," he meowed gruffly, and the others purred in amusement at the ginger kit that appeared.
"You fail to surprise me Marshstar," Foreststar scoffed. "He is your kin."
The black tom narrowed his eyes at her. "He has the makings of a fine warrior," he snapped challengingly. "Do you disapprove?"
"I do not," the tabby's green eyes shone in amusement, as did the others'. "He fits the role perfectly."
Marshstar nodded, the end of his tail twitching irritably at her as the image faded.
"And lastly, my choice." A tortoiseshell kit appeared for ForestClan, and a low muttering to rise among the gathered warriors when they saw her. Foreststar hissed at them, "Do I hear complaints?"
"Her mother is not Clan born!" One brave voice spoke out, and others echoed his sentiment. "How do you know she will be loyal to the cause?"
"Perhaps that is true," the tabby leader bristled, ears flattening. "But she is loyal, her father's warrior blood runs strong in her. She has spirit, and I believe her to be the perfect cat for this role."
The other founders nodded, though a bit more hesitantly this time, and Foreststar's fur lay flat as none outright objected. Her green eyes darted to a she-cat in the crowd who had surprisingly remained silent, busy gazing intently at the shape in the pool with a mix of pride and sorrow.
"So much responsibility we are giving to ones so young," Meadowstar mewed softly, looking up towards the sky once again.
Cliffstar meowed in agreement. "Now we must all do our part to help these kits succeed, before the Clans tear each other apart..."
