JoA/PoI Respite (set after the Season 3 finale of PoI)
*JoA*PoI*
God had told Joan to walk a particularly bad part of New York City. Joan didn't even question Him anymore. So she went for a walk. She wasn't surprised when someone tried to mug her with a knife. She tried to talk the mugger down but she was very surprised when a man in a suit came out of nowhere and saved her.
It was over so quick and the mugger was running away (with an obviously broken arm).
"Wow. I mean 'thank you'?" She didn't mean for it to be a question but even with all of her interactions with God, she was unprepared for this.
"You should be somewhere safe," the man told her.
Joan nodded. "I'm going to my job, Reinhart Bakery. Can I give you a coffee or anything off the menu?" she offered.
The man blinked. "Reinhart?"
"On 85th and Rookery?"
"You shouldn't give out information like that," the man chided. Then he added, "I know where it is."
"I know but you just saved my life. Please let me get you a coffee."
The man shook his head in refusal, "but you could do me a favor."
Now Joan was wary. "First, you tell me what it is."
The man approved of her wariness. "You know a man that comes to the bakery: short, glasses, a limp and a dog."
"Oh, you mean Mr. Martin?"
The man in the suit almost smiled. "Yes. Him. Could you give him a message for me?"
"Of course," Joan could easily do that.
"Give him my regards."
"Okay, who should I say it's from?"
He grinned, "A man in a suit." And then he turned and walked away, leaving Joan gaping at him. A weird sound made Joan remember than she was in the bad part of town. She hurried to the bakery. To her surprise, Mr. Martin was sipping his tea outside with Bear.
Joan sat down at his table. "Hi. I just met up with a friend yours, a man in a suit? He wouldn't give me his name but he wanted me to pass on his regards."
"Oh," Mr. Martin paused to gather his thoughts. "Thank you, Miss Joan."
"Just now, he saved my life," Joan had to tell Mr. Martin.
Mr. Martin smiled slightly. "It's what he does. And if you'll kindly excuse, I have places that I need to be as well."
Joan watched Mr. Martin and Bear walk away and then it was time to clock in. Not five minutes after, two men came to rob the bakery and they were paying close attention to the customers with dogs.
But really, Joan was just glad that everyone went home alive that night.
