She always smiles. And he hates her for it.
He never wanted it to happen.
It wasn't supposed to happen…at least…not like this.
"Inuyasha?" Her voice, sweet and untainted, penetrates the darkness of his mind.
And yet, he cannot make sense of her fast enough.
He attacks.
A scream tears from her parted lips as the others watch with fearful eyes.
She is thrown to the ground. Shocked and torn.
And still, she smiles.

"I-Inu…yasha..."
Her blood flows.
The beast was loose.
Red eyes fade.
Metallic blood drips. He hurries to stop the flow.
Tears cascade down his face as he apologizes. Over and over again.
She does not hear his apologies.
"Kagome!"
She dies with a smile upon her lips.
