Just Give Me A Reason – verse 1

"Right from the start, you were a thief you stole my heart, and I, your willing victim."

(Travis)

Running away had been Connor's idea. We'd been on the road for days, being chased by an angry Cyclops with bad hair. I honestly didn't know where I was. Kansas? Kentucky? The moon? There were fields as far as I could see in all directions. How boring. Anyways, we'd been running from that Cyclops since we'd stolen his toothbrush (what? It was gold!) Back in Texas. I seriously needed to kill that guy. He was loud. I turned and looked back to see if he was following and ended up slamming into a girl. She was about my age. 10? 11? She was pretty too even though as of now, she looked like she was ready to murder him. She has dark brown hair and forest green eyes that reminded me emeralds (I'd taken some before. The police had never found them.) "Ya know, you'd be prettier if you smiled more." I said, a smirk on my lips. She gave me another evil look. "Why are you here?" She snarled. "Whoa, calm down." I said. All of the sudden I was on the ground, her face above me, her gardening tool, held to my throat. "Answer." She barked. I laughed nervously. "Um, where exactly is here?" I muttered. She rolled her eyes. "Nebraska." She answered, tone incredibly clipped. "Well, I was just come through. I recommend letting me go before-" A roar cut through the fields. I cursed. "What's that!?" The girl shrieked. I stopped. "Wait you can see him?" She looked at me like I was mutant with three arms or something. "Yes! If I haven't made that clear! Get it away from my fields!" I had no choice. "You're coming with us." I said, not giving her choice. I hoisted her up over my shoulder, and ran.

I had bruises on my back from her punching me (she kinda wanted me to put her down…) by the time I put her down. It was night and I think we were in a different state. She'd fallen asleep about ½ an hour ago on my shoulder. I laid her down on an old sleeping bag we'd gotten from a store that day. Connor glanced at her and me. "Dude, you sure about her?" He asked. "Yes Connor. She can see." I rolled my eyes. "So, any idea where we are and where the heck we're going?" He smirked. "She has a phone in her pocket. Give it." I tossed it to him. A 5s in a lime green otterbox (A/N: She doesn't know she's a demigod yet, so she has a phone). Perfect. We got in with no problem. It showed us that we were now in Indiana. "So…" My voice was soft as not to wake the girl. "Long Island." Connor spoke. That's where mom always said she wanted to go. Connor continued to look through the girl's phone, a devilish smile growing on his face. "Got anything juicy?" I asked. "Nah. Her name is Katie Gardner. Normal girl, went to school- oh! Ooh, Trav, lookie here." I looked where he pointed and laughed. "That is perfect. Is there any way we can get it for blackmail?" She stirred in my lap. "What time is- Hey! My phone!" She lunged towards Connor, who sighed in amused and tried not to laugh. "Calm down Kitten." I took her by the waist and I sat her on my lap. She punched me. "Don't call me that." She snapped. "Ooh! Feisty!" Connor teased gleefully. "Ugh. You both suck." She grumbled. "Go away." I tapped her shoulder. "Um, Kitten we can't do that. You don't know where we're going and we're definitely not leaving you here." I stepped forward, threatening to carry her again. She rolled her eyes. "Fine , lead the way, just don't do anything stupid."
