Major Spoilers for Human Nature. Set during that episode.

Short drabble about Martha feeling hopeless when the Doctor has fallen in love.

Big thanks to my beta Stephen.

Human Nature

There was nothing she could do.

She was a lowly servant and he wasn't about to listen to her.

Maybe coming here really was a mistake.

Maybe her mother's warnings had been right.

She knew he was dangerous. How could he not be? But it was exciting and terrifying all at the same time. But this had to be the most terrifying of all.

He wasn't the Doctor anymore, he was John Smith, human.

Completely Human.

It wasn't right that in his subconscious he knew who he really was, his dreams were telling him that he was the Doctor, a fact that he refused to accept.

Martha was slumped against the TARDIS console. He had left her instructions of what to do. He had told her not to let him abandon her.

As if he hadn't already done that. The Doctor would never have ordered her around like she was below him. But this man was not the Doctor.

He told her not to let him hurt anyone, but she was certain beyond a shadow of a doubt that when they left that Joan would be heartbroken. He hadn't planned on falling in love so there was nothing she could do, he hadn't left her any instructions on love.

Was she bitter that he hadn't fallen for her?

Most probably.

But that wasn't her main concern she had to look after him, he was all that mattered, because if they were found only he would be able to save them.

He had left her in charge, yet she felt like there was nothing she could do.

A/N: Yay, another one. I hope you enjoyed that, reviews are always very nice indeed. Oh and btw to all my readers I'm currently working on a completely new story with Martha and the Doctor. ;) the first chapter will be up soon.
