Calvin and Hobbes: Runaways

Disclaimer: I own only a few things. Those things are Bryant County, Utah, the Metatronic megacraft, the Holomap, the Timeviewer, the Digitronic Duplicator, and the Megadigger 1000. List may increase over time as I come up with more ideas. The items that don't belong to me, but are made up and belong to Swing123, are the MTM and the Time Pauser.

Summary: After watching his parents die in a drive-by shooting, 15-year-old Calvin runs away and joins a gang of other runaways, ranging from ages 10 to 18. They're cold, hard, and don't give a damn about anyone but themselves . . . and each other. There are about 24 humans, and just as many imaginary animals like Hobbes. The humans can see each other's animals, and even interact with them. Together, the are known as the Survivors, and they are the strongest gang in the adultless Bryant County, Utah. The entire county has no adults in it; those who live to reach adulthood are exiled as soon as they reach age 20. The Survivors have the best weapons technology available to the general public, and they use it to the best of their ability, conquering or obliterating the smallest, newest gangs, showing no mercy.

Calvin had a small amount of supplies with him as he picked the lock on the door of his parent's car, including Hobbes. He opened the door of the car, threw his stuff in, then went into the garage, picked up a tank of gas that his dad kept there, and started pouring it over different parts of the house, leaving trails connecting the major pools of gasoline. He headed back out to the car, then turned around, lit a match, and threw the match at the house, watching as the house caught on fire, destroying his parent's bodies as it burned. He got in the car, then turned the key which he'd fished out of his dad's pocket after his parents had been shot and killed in a drive-by shooting. He hit the gas pedal, and shot out of the driveway and away from the remains of his childhood home.

Ten hours later, after breaking every speed limit below 90 miles an hour and just driving around looking for somewhere to go, he had to get gas. He'd made a withdrawal from an ATM earlier using his dad's credit card, extracting every shred of money he could get, even raiding his college fund. He had $100,000 in cash stashed in the back of the care. He got out of the car, then started to fill up the gas tank. He went inside the gas station to buy a drink and some snacks, then, seeing three packs of cigarettes lying on the ground, he bent down, casually picking up all three and hiding them in his jacket. He figured he could sell the cigarettes for money. He bought a drink, some snacks, and a National Enquirer with the headline 'Bryant County, Utah: Gang Central?'.

After pulling away from the gas station, he headed to a parking lot, parked the car, and started to read the article. Hobbes, who had been sleeping in the backseat, woke up and started to read the article over Calvin's shoulder. "Are you considering going there, Calvin?" he asked. Calvin nodded.

"Mom and Dad are dead, Susie's parents died a few weeks back in a drive-by as well, she hates me for dumping her, and Rosalyn is at graduate school. I figure that it can't get much worse." Calvin said as he started the car, then headed for the state line, towards Utah . . . and the beginning of a new life.
