A/N – Congratulations to Queen Elizabeth the Literate for completing the first chapter of her first novel.
A Mothers Love
Sirius had always been the 'touchy-feely' one of the group. Sure, James would ruffle his friends' hair and give them bear hugs, but he was never as understanding of his best friends needs as Remus was. Remus was like Sirius; neither had ever been loved by their mothers, but still needed that warmth and comforts that only a guardian could give. So they became guardians to each other. James often joked that they were the girls of the group; he and Peter had no time for such 'trivialities'.
Because of James and Peter's attitude, Sirius never told anyone but Remus about the nightmares that had plagued his sleep since he was 7, and in turn, Remus told Sirius about his lycanthropy before he told the others. The secrets only pulled the boys together more and taught them that they didn't have to miss out on a mothers love; they simply had to give to receive.
"Remmie?" A tiny whimpering voice punctured the darkness of the dormitory.
"Remmie, are you awake?"
"Hmm?" Remus opened an eye to see a clammy looking Sirius at the end of his bed. He sat up and eyed the shaking figure a little more closely. Sirius's eyes were wide and he was caked in sweat.
"Are you OK?" Sirius blurted out, unable to keep it to himself anymore.
"I'm fine Sirius. Go back to sleep."
"Can I stay with you?" Another rushed question, another fearful look.
"Nightmare?"
"Yes." He whimpered.
Sometimes Remus wished the others could see the Hogwarts playboy at times like this, just so they could stop putting pressure on him and realise that the prankster wasn't perfect. He was just like everybody else; vulnerable, nervous and scared.
"Come on then, you sissy." Remus scooted over as Sirius snuggled down into Remus's covers. The shaking slowly stopped as Remus wrapped an arm around his friend in a comforting gesture, and there was a little contented sigh as Sirius felt calm again.
"And Remmie..."
"Yes?"
"I'm not a sissy."
"I know, Sirius. Now go to sleep."
