And Silence Weeps

A dark red river

Slowly flowing over pale skin

Hearts blood drips

Life bleeds away

Shiny silver darkened

Forever stained with grief

Never again to sparkle

Black hair dulled

Washed in shadows

A pool of color

And silence weeps

Albus Dumbledore stood in sorrowed surprise at the scene that greeted his eyes in his Potion Master's Quarters. Curled by the fire, still and peaceful for the first time in years lay Severus Snape, blood covered and quiet. Moving slowly almost against his will, he extended a hand to check for life, and finally let a tear fall at the conformation it had fled. As he stood, something rustled under his foot, and as he picked it up, he saw a note in Severus' handwriting with his name on the front.

Albus, he read, I'm sorry. I know I'm letting you down, but I'm empty now. I have nothing left to give and that lack is tearing at me constantly. I'm not going to say much, because there isn't much to say. I'm at peace and not Voldemort or anyone else can take another piece of me now. Look after my Slytherins please, Even saving one would mean I hadn't completely failed.

Severus Snape

And Dumbledore gathered his body close and cried.
