"End of a Journey"

A hand clasps his shaking palm and my orbs bore into his,

Stuttering slightly, a few words leave his dry lips as his eyes now rest behind lifeless lids.

His light is out and his breath is gone, and all you are left with is the shell,

That one you loved, is in front of you, but only his encasement will tell,

"He went peacefully, my love, can't you see? This is the way he would have wanted it to be"

But all I see are his dry lips, desperately wanting to say more,

Hands still clasped and tears on cheek, this is what we had been doomed to wait for.

In no way can he tell us if he is at peace in his decline,

He can tell us nothing at all, not a single sign.

Because it takes our loved ones away, merciless in its shine.

No letter to say "Love you lots."

No words to say "Forget me not."

But we could never forget you.

For our memories you dwelled,

In our motives you impelled,

And in our hearts you are beheld,

But sadly death, had you quelled.
