The Coming of Hrothgar

Then Grendel, king of the beasts, gave
The animal such peace and quiet
That they swore never to ravage
Human lands, until threatened upon.
He built his home so deep in marsh
As so not to injure God¡¦s people.
It was the humblest of buildings,
Making no sins of avarice.
A horrible dictator, by
The name of Hrothgar, have create
A mead-hall so large, needing much
Meat and hours of bees¡¦ hard work.
It made such stir and commotion
That the hares trembled, and boars shook.
The Keeper of Forests and Lakes
Decides to discuss the future
Of Herot, the mead-hall, and the
Beautiful lands that surrounds it.
Thus Grendel began his journey
To the place where no beast survives.
He went in with diplomacy
With perfect manners and peacefulness.
But that evil son of Satan
Have ordered his guards to slay the
Wonderful and Gregarious King.
Alas, their sword of sorcery
Could not hurt the ruler, equip
Of Truth, shield of power and light
Once and again, good has prevailed.
