Pokemon is not mine! An Unwilling Day Off
It was a bright, early morning in Treasure Town. Things had been quite calm since Darkrai's attempt to plunge the world into darkness several months ago. Granted, pokemon still managed to get themselves into trouble, what with needing to be rescued and having an item stolen by an outlaw and the like, but other than that, everything was peaceful. However, at Sharpedo Bluff, things were anything but peaceful for Cyndaquil. He had somehow managed to catch a terrible cold after yesterday's expedition to Blizzard Island, and was feeling so awful, he could hardly stand. But as the pokemon from the future who was once human, and the pokemon who had not only stopped Darkrai, but also the planet's paralysis, he was determined to provide his assistance to pokemon in need whenever he could. His partner, Chikorita, however, firmly believed he needed rest more than anything. And she wouldn't give up until he agreed to stay at home for the day.
In a hoarse, weak voice, Cyndaquil said, "But Chikorita, I'm the team leader! You guys need me. I know I stay here sometimes, but that's different! It's because I believe you can handle the dungeon!"
Chikorita replied in a stern voice, "Well, you can't go out on a mission like this! Look at yourself, you can hardly stand. I'm sure we'll be fine, anyway. You may have forgotten, but I DID help you save the planet from paralysis, as well as Darkrai's attempt to put everyone in an eternal nightmare, and he was in a crater overflowing with fire-types! If I can handle that, I can handle anything. Besides, what kind of trouble could Mesprit, Shaymin and I get into in Spacial Rift?"
"I can think of a lot…"
"Look, as soon as we find this Buizel, we'll come home. Okay?"
"Why can't you just stay here? I'll be so bored without anyone to talk to…"
"Because, Cyndaquil. We can't just let the poor Buizel stay in Spacial Rift! Something might happen to him, and we've already accepted the job. So just go back to bed, and get some rest, alright?"
"But… but… ugh… fine…" Cyndaquil trudged back over to his bed and went back to lying down. He looked over at Chikorita again and said, "Are you going or what?"
"Yes, I am. I'll see you later." Chikorita grabbed the treasure bag, and went to meet Mesprit and Shaymin at Spinda's Café. Cyndaquil watched her leave, and once she was gone, let out a sigh. He just couldn't tell her the real reason he didn't want her to go without him.
"Why can't I bring myself to tell her…? Why is it so hard…? I'm so worried she might not come back… Why can't I tell her that? Why can't I tell her that I don't want anything to happen to her, and that if something did, I'd never forgive myself? …Why am I falling in love with my best friend…?" Cyndaquil was terribly confused, and that didn't help him while he was sick and sneezing every five minutes. He finally rested his head on his arms and closed his eyes, hoping that Chikorita would be all right. What he didn't know was that that Chikorita was feeling the exact same way as he was. She didn't want him getting hurt, either, and she knew that if he DID go with them, in his condition, he might just get himself killed. And if that happened, she didn't know what she would do.
The End
