Kurumizawa Ume told Sawako-chan this purely because she was in the way, an inconvenience, and Kurumi hated her.
The plan was to see if anyone could replace, and better, her feelings for Kazehaya - everybody's Kazehaya. She liked him because he was sweet, and cute, and popular with all, and honest, and he could see people for who they were, and…
Surely other boys had the same qualities. Today, she would find out.
"No! Really? Miyagawa said he likes Kurumi?"
"I can't believe it! You've liked Miyagawa for such a long time, Miki!"
"Kurumi did share her notes with him the other day."
"She doesn't want any boy to like any girl but her! That's why she flirts with boys."
The plan failed. Any time she tried to help out, or talk to, or even smile at a boy, she knew what the other girls were thinking: she was flirting.
She took to sitting in the silent classroom after school, which only made things worse, as one day Kazehaya, concerned about the girl, came back to check up on her, where she promptly began wailing and telling him the story through sobs.
And falling even harder for him.

Kurumizawa Ume told Sawako-chan this half because she was in the way, an inconvenience, and Kurumi hated her, and half because she knew what it was like to fall for somebody who did not return your feelings. She knew - but did not want to admit - that this would be an unlikely scenario as it was so obvious Kazehaya liked Sawako, but she had told her just in case.
Kurumi was the prime example of what a girl could become if other options failed: ever-so-slightly bitter, ever-so-slightly-twisted and always jealous.

hmm, more of a drabble really ^_^; (i might come back and add more to the end later on...) still, i liked writing it.
kurumi is actually an awesome character…i like her much more now than when she was putting on that 'sweet girl' act. although i'll always ship sawakoxkazehaya over kurumixkazehaya -shudders slightly- no offence to people who like them together!
