"Bye Daddy!" called Rosalie Snow as her father stepped back into his limousine and had the chauffeur book it back to his mansion, before the snow caused to much of a traffic problem for the president to bear.
She heard a sure and familiar voice behind her. "Ready to come inside now?"
She smiled and turned around to see Nickolai standing with the door open behind him, old, worn jacket that smelt of pine and gravel on. She didn't know how much she had missed him and his flawless grey hair. "Nick!" she squealed, running into his open arm. He tried not to sneeze when the fur of her jacket tickled his nose. "It's so good to see you! This time Daddy thinks I'm here with Sera Crane."
"I wonder if that man will ever be smart enough to catch on…" he muttered under his breath, too low for Rosalie to hear properly, and if she weren't right under his arm she wouldn't have caught it at all. They followed the small Asian woman to their seats in front of the steaming stovetop in hesitant silence.
When he pulled out her chair she sat down and confronted him. "What did you say?" she asked, shaking the snowflakes from her platinum blonde hair.
"Just… saying how beautiful you are in the snow." He suggested, kissing her on the nose.
"I could've sworn you said something else."
"You were mistaken."
"Nick."
"Let it rest… Please. This is our first night together in months."
Barely placated, Rosalie sat back, rolling her eyes and letting herself watch the oriental man juggle the fire. He made the rice into a heart and had it beat for her, which got everyone laughing. Suddenly the man was up in the air, suspended by Nick's fist. "Nickolai! What the hell?"
He sat back in his chair, silently fuming. "What is the matter with you? Tell me!"
"He was bothering me."
"He was doing his job. This is their routine, I've seen it before."
"And it was bothering me."
"Nick!" she groaned. "Listen. Just… Forget you. You are ridiculously clingy whenever we are together, and I'm starting to doubt that my father is the only reason we have been apart so long."
That made Nick snap. "Its because your terrible father I act this way. I-"
"My father is rich! Your father is dead! Just leave me alone! I'm going home." She stood up and began to walk away before adding, "There's a good reason my father keeps me away from you greedy Coins!"
"Leave Rosalie. Leave right now."
"That's what I'm doing." She snapped, leaving him for the last time. The next time Nickolai Coin saw her, it would be on TV, in the Capitol Games.
