Syrena swam down quickly as
She clutched her bleeding love.
A hammerhead was after them
Like lightning from above.
Oh yes, she had kissed Philip. He
Could breathe as if on land.
But if he had been really there
Our friend could barely stand.
She meant to take him to her friend:
The healer of their pod.
She knew that only Pragya could
Perform a spell so odd.
But they were still in peril for
This huge ferocious fish
Had smelled her lover's blood and wanted
Him upon its dish.
II.
The mermaid locked her fear away and
darted here and there.
The monster was so close behind
Its nose brushed 'gainst her hair.
The foul brute's teeth still had some skin
Left from its previous meal.
Syrena just tried not to think
'Bout how those jaws might feel.
Now, Philip was disgusted. He was
Weak and could not help
His one true love sent from above
He could have kicked himself.
Please drop me lovely one, he thought.
Let me give you this vow:
You've suffered much because of me
so God must take me now.

At last they found a sanctuary.
There was a coral bed
With nooks and crannies and a hole
To save both of their heads.
At least that's what the brunette thought.
The hole was just too small!
She hissed! The shark moved in! 'Twas time
For God to end it all.
Yes, they were trapped and yet just then
a miracle occurred.
She poked the shark right in the eye.
It must have been God's word
The couple would live one more day.
