I am so excited to go to work with grandpa today! He promised he would take me this summer after school got out. Its finally summer!
I was sitting by the window waiting for grandpa to pick me up. I squealed when i saw the squad car pulling up. "grandpa!" I ran to the door and jumped in his arms. He laughed and hugged me tight. Finally after talking to momma for a while he scooped me up and ran to the squad car.
When we got to the station grandpa took me on a tour. It was so cool. then he let me play on his computer while he did paperwork.
Just after lunch a guy walked in. he looked... strange. his eyes kept darting around the lobby. grandpa looked up and frowned. "can i help you?" he asked, the guy stopped dead in his place and looked at us. then he pulled a gun and pointed it right at me! I screamed and dove under the desk, but he shot the desk! it barely missed me. I screamed again when i heard another shot go through the desk.
Grandpa slid his badge and tazer to me from where he crouched by the desk. "nessie go back to the storage room and lock the door, dont open it for anyone except me your mom or dad" he told me. "grandpa come with me" I cried. He brushed my cheek with his hand, "I can't princess, I have to keep him from hurting everyone" he said, I cried and held his hand tight. "nessie you have to go, go now while I distract him" I tried to protest but he stood back up. "hey over here!" he called, he nudged me with his leg and I crawled to the end of the desk. I got up and ran to the storage room, right before I shut the door I heard another gunshot.
I don't know how long I sat in the corner of the storage room, crying as the gunshots sounded over and over in my head. the door has rattled a few times but grandpa told me to only open it for him mommy or daddy. I don't know how long it was before i heard a soft knock on the door. I stayed quiet. Finally i heard his voice. "its alright now princess, you can come out now. come on baby girl open the door for grandpa" I bolted from my spot and unlocked the door. HE was standing there with his arms open, I gladly jumped and curled close, fresh tears falling down my cheeks. "don't cry princess, your safe" he soothed. I held him tighter, "he shot you" I cried. He tightened his arms around me. "no sweetie, I'm ok. look." He pulled back his shirt to show a bulky vest. at that moment I realized he really would do anything to keep me safe. And not just me. he would for mom too.
After the paramedics came and made sure we were both ok grandpa took me home for the rest of the day. We curled up together on his big poofy couch and watches movies. He fell asleep quickly, and I followed soon after knowing I was safe.
