A filk (song parody) to one of my favorite oldies. For those of you not familiar with the song, the parts in the last two verses that I've put in parentheses in italics are the counter-tune, sung behind the main verse by the other character.

Mother and Son
(tune: "Father and Son" by Cat Stevens)

Son:

One more day, one more night,
And I start my own adventure;
Brand new friends, brand new sights,
There's so much I want to see.
I can't wait, I can't sleep,
I can almost taste tomorrow,
I've been waiting all my life for this journey...

There's so much that lies ahead,
And I have to run and catch it;
It won't wait, and I know I'm more than ready -
I've got to run, got to go,
Or I'll fall behind I know,
Cause my dream is like a fire, and it burns me so.

Mother:

In his eyes all I can see are the dreams that pull him far from me
It hurts, but I can't hold him forever.
From the moment he was born, he was destined to leave me
Now it's time, and I know
That I have to let him go

I know...he has to go.

Son: (Mother:)

One more day, one more night, (Let...him...go)
And I start my own adventure; (I can't...keep him I know)
New friends and new horizons,
There's so much I want to see. (I must let him...let him go...)
I can't wait, I can't sleep,
I can almost taste tomorrow,
I've been waiting all my life for this journey.

Mother: (Son:)

All the times that I've cried, (Away...away...away...)
Keeping all the things I feared inside, (I can't...bear to stay)
It's hard, but I cannot let him see it.
He's not mine, he's his own
And he has to fly alone. (And it's only...one more day...)
Now it's time, and I know
That I have to let him go

I know...he has to go.
