Soji was sat in a overly large chair in front of the fire. The chair was a ghastly green colour, and chafed his back as he breathed.
His Grandmother was sitting with him, in the other chair that formed the barrier that halted the orange light from spreading too far into the rest of the room.
She was talking. Something important.
Mark stared at the fire. He was only half hearing her speak.
"There is a tale. A fable. It's been kept in my family for years. Know one else knows." She coughed, interrupting herself. "Secrets."
The fire seemed to beat, the flames flying around. Pumping.
"Once. It was a long time ago. Somewhere. Our Ancestor called Alice, knew someone."
The fire spat as a new branch began to burn.
"Someone who nearly destroyed the net."
Soji, while keeping his eyes on the fire, turned his head towards his grandmother.
"A Prophet?"

"No. This is before their time. Way before."
The room grew darker as the story continued. Soji, didn't mind.
The dead branches in the fire looked like ghosts, supporting the heavy furnace inside the structure.
Soji didn't hear the rest of the tale. He wasn't even sure if it was part of the tale. She could have said anything.
The room grew into total darkness except for the soft, swift light of the fire.
"She was called. Lain. Lain I-"
Her voice slowed to a standstill. At the same time, the fire stopped moving, dancing its fight with darkness.
The room unglued. Parts of the image broke and fell.
Quickly, the room became a incomprehensible mass of colours.
Then. It stopped.

Soji sat up, startled. It felt like his whole body had been jerked.
He was used to this by now.
He stumbled downstairs, tripping on the box outside his room.
In his kitchen, he went through the motions of drinking, finding the glasses by memory, and drinking a small amount of water.
Unseeing, he stared in what he knew to be the direction of the windows. He found the night curious. It was a darkness he couldn't see through.
Finished, He felt his way back to his bed, and lay, listening to the silence.
If only he could remember what the dream was about...
