"He wanted my head in a box" she said, sitting next to him at the bar. This was the first chance they'd had to talk, and she's had to track him down. He was nursing what she hopped was a soda water, but she wasn't holding out any hope.

"That's what she said, Lorelei." Jane responded, taking a sip of his drink. He motioned to the bar tender to bring on to Lisbon.

"Why?"

"Probably because he's a psychopath." Jane said shrugging. She wasn't going to let it go through.

"It's not just that he wanted me dead, he wanted you to cut off my head."

"I noticed."

"And me, not Grace, or Cho, or Rigsby."

"What are you getting at here Lisbon?" The bartender sat the drink in front of her and she took a drink. Soda. Not her favorite, but she probably shouldn't be drinking.

"Why me?"

"Well, you know, he likes to go after those that mean the most to me, to anyone really, and well, that's you."

"That's great. So because I'm your friend he's going to be trying to kill me all the time? That's great."

"It's more than that I think." Jane said, turning to look at her. "Let's go for a walk." He put a few bills on the bar and started walking away, Lisbon sputtering at the bar but quickly following.

"More? What the hell does that mean?"

"Grace told me how you got that witness to tell you about the gun man on that John Doe suicide case."

"Yeah? So?" They walked down the street, it was night, but they both knew the area well.

"You've been paying attention to what I do."

"Not just you. I took a class the first month or so after you were gone. Taught by some FBI profilers. Great people; not like the usual pencil pushers that we deal with. They taught some techniques."

"Is that all?"

"Of course!" And she knew that he knew she was lying. There was no way that she was telling him that after the first month of poor results on cases, what with Rigsby spending all his time talking about Ben and Grace pretending not to care and Cho being, well, Cho, she'd gotten desperate. Trying out his techniques worked, just not as well as they did for him. And she felt that she was carrying the team by herself at times. She'd needed the support that she usually for from Jane. And knowing that he probably wasn't going to come back, she'd decided to be her own support.

"I missed you Lisbon." His voice was quiet, and it was odd that he hadn't called her out on her lie.

"I missed you too." They walked in silence, not needing to talk. This was what they did.
