'Grandpa! Grandpa' A small but very loud voice called out around the ED reception.
'Sssssh Megan' scolded the young babysitter holding a little girl on his hip who chose to ignore her and continue shouting.
'What's all the racket' asked Tess as she walked out of a nearby cubical smiling as she spotted a very familiar little girl.
'Aunty Tess! Where's grandpa were going for ice cweam' shouted the little girl excitedly wiggling out of her babysitters grip and running towards the senior nurse.
Tess laughed at the girl excitement she could tell Megan was really excited as she had begun to pronounce her R's as W's something which made most adults chuckling. She bent down and cuddled the little girl they she often spent time babysitting her friend's granddaughter which had led to the affection between the two.
'C'mon honey shall we see if we can go find the old man?' Tess suggested holding out her hand and waiting until the toddler had her hand in hers.
The two walked through the ED until they came to her office peering through the small window she could see her old friend hunched over the desk obviously going through the backlog of paper work.
Megan pulled on her hand obviously indicating her boredom 'want to get ice cweam aunty Tess' she complained.
Tess just smiled at the young girl before opening the door and letting the young girl see her grandfather.
'Grandpa!'
'Hey lil star what are you doing here?' asked Charlie as he spun round in the chair just in time to be jumped on.
'Ice cweam, Ice cweam' she shouted excitedly.
'Oh yeah Grandpa almost forgot about our little date' he chuckled as she pouted at him.
Tess laughed from the doorway 'going a bit senile are we?'
'Very funny Tess, thank you for bringing her listen do you want to join us?' he asked knowing it was the end of her shift.
'Pwease auntie Tess we would really apecia…apprec…' the little girl tried obviously picking up on the way her grandfather addressed adults.
'Appreciate sweety, but yes I would love to join you' added Tess smiling at the pair.
20 minutes later all three of them found themselves entering a small American style dinner near the hospital.
'Hey there how can I help you?' asked the young server smiling at the trio.
'Well I would like a strawberry Ice cream Sunday please, Tess what would you like?' relied Charlie.
'I would love a mint chocolate cone please' she explained.
Both adults laughed as Megan jumped in 'Can I have a teddy bear Grandpa'
The young girl knew what she meant and handed her a small teddy bear wafer whilst making a child's chocolate Sunday.
As they all prayed Megan looked at her grandfather and shouted 'Thank you' at the lady before running over to the table in the corner.
'Auntie Tess, grandpa are you best friends?' she asked curiously.
'Well yeah I suppose we are' explained Charlie
'Have you been best friends forever?' she asked sweetly
Both adults chuckled at the innocent little girl.
'A long time yes, why sweetheart?'
'Can I be your best friend too?' she asked scoping a big spoonful of ice cream into her mouth missing part of it leaving to spill down her chin.
'Of course sweetheart you always will be my best friend' explained Charlie as he wiped the ice cream away from her chin.
'And mine' replied Tess.
'Good, grandpa can I have another Teddy bear please you are my best friend' she asked pulling her best puppy dog eyes at him.
Charlie nodded in response as he got out of his seat leaving Tess to realise that little girl had her grandfather wrapped around her little finger and he loved it.
