...

Some things just weren't meant to happen.

It wasn't that Jeb disliked DG. He did like her, quite a bit. In fact she'd starred in a great many of his fantasy of late. He meant nothing by it; he knew she was far, far out of his league. It was just that he was a healthy young male and she was an indisputably pretty girl who happened to be the only one of his acquaintance that he hadn't had a war buddy bond with for so long that he'd forgotten she was female in the first place. So he'd used her for fantasy material, it's not like he wanted anything to happen between them, and it's not like she'd ever know. No harm, no foul, perfectly harmless right?

Which was probably why he was having trouble meeting her eyes right now as his father held her hand and explained that they were getting married. His father. Was marrying DG. The girl Jeb had been fantasizing about. For months. Which would make her. His step-mom.

Sometimes life was just plain wrong.
