{I never meant to start a war}

Kagome's lips pressed together into a thin, rage filled line; she was angry, of course she was angry. How could she not be? Nine months of her life had been taken and she had nothing to show for it as she stared at the corner where—for some time now—Bankotsu had been sleeping.

He had complained when he'd first woken there that it smelled of her, that it was sick with her feminine perfume and that it made him nauseous. On and on he'd gone about it; for days he complained every time she entered the hut. Once he'd even tried dragging himself outside, though with both legs broken he'd not gotten much further than the door dragging on his belly. The whole exercise had irritated his other injuries and had left him with dirt in several sutures that had forced her to take them out and re-sterilize the wounds before replacing them so he hadn't gotten an infection.

She didn't know when exactly he'd stopped complaining about it, but somewhere along the way he had. Though whether or not it had been because it had stopped smelling like her or not she didn't know.

What she could remember was how surprised she'd been when he'd stayed after his legs had heeled. True he hadn't been able to walk very well but even so it was better than he had been doing for the months prior to that. With as much as he complained and bossed her around—not that she listened—she expected him to rob her blind and leave. But he hadn't—though she was sure he'd thought about it. He'd stayed. He'd never given her a reason why.

And now he was gone.

Perhaps she shouldn't have been so surprised, after all he was a bandit, she hadn't really expected him to stay even as long as he had. So what was this feeling that was bubbling inside her as she stood there, in the dark of her hut with her hands curled into fists; trembling. Why did it bring a lump to her throat and tears to her eyes? Was she really so pathetic that she would miss the company of a man such as him?

Blue eyes widened as something was suddenly thrown to drape over her. Hands uncurled and came up to inspect it, taking in the feel of the soft cotton before she turned and stared at the being just at the step before the door.

"You thought I left, didn't you…" Bankotsu asked ruefully, making fun of her in his callous way before he opened his arms in time to catch her as she raced and leaped off the step at him. His arms circled her waist firmly, holding her off the ground a she all but curled herself around him. She could hear him give a gentle laugh as his tone softened.

"Stupid…"

He was right.

She was stupid.

Because this was stupid, loving him was stupid, but she never wanted it to end.

{I just wanted you to let me in}
