The Isle of Berk was not an easy place to live. It was cold, food was not always easy to find, and yes, it was cold. Oh, and the almost constant dragon raids didn't help matters much, either. To the vikings of Berk, it was either kill or be killed, no other option. However, not all of them felt this way. Raineir Feralsome was pretty much one of very few who believed that dragons were not mindless killing machines. Instead, she thought there was more to the winged creatures than met the eyes. Of course, most of the others said that didn't make any sense. Her parents believed her, though. They were part of the few who didn't participate in dragon killing. Here's another thing about Raineir: she was, at the time, Hiccup's only friend, along with Gobber. She, along with her parents, and unlike most of the village, believed he had a lot of potential.
One of the most unusual things about Raineir, along with her violet-colored eyes, was her immunity to electricity. For a very little-known reason, electrical shocks don't hurt or affect her negatively in any way. Little did she know that it would serve her well very soon...
One particularly mild day on Berk, Raineir was walking through the forest on Raven Point, studying the wildlife. She liked to explore the land, getting a feel for Berk's geographical features. Seemingly out of nowhere, a screech of pain rang out. Startled, Raineir put her hand on the hilt of her sword (the blade was pure Gronckle Iron. Raineir didn't know what Gronckle Iron was, but the person who gave it to her, a wise old sage, said it would serve her purpose) and took it off, wanting to check the situation out first. She headed towards the source of the noise. Coming upon a cove (yes, THAT cove), she peered down. There was a group of- dragon hunters, judging by their clothes and weapons, surrounding what looked like a... Skrill? The poor dragon was in bad shape. She was covered in wounds and had a hard time fighting off the hunters in her weakened state. Making up her mind, Raineir climbed down slowly and made herself know. "Hey!" She stepped in front of the dragon and drew her sword, "Step away from the Skrill and none of will get hurt!" The leader stared at her, then laughed. "You? A mere girl willing to fight to defend a beast?" Not fazed in the slightest, Raineir only glared more fiercely. She charged at them, sword raised, not to kill, but possibly knock him and his goonies out, one by one. Suddenly, a bolt of lightning shot out from...her sword? It hit the leader on his head, and he dropped to the ground, lifeless. Staring at her sword in shock, Raineir looked back at the other hunters, daring them to make a move. Not wanting to become her next target, they ran. Raineir couldn't believe what happened. She was a little horrified "Oh, Thor, I killed somebody!" She said. She wasn't much for killing unless she really had to.
Turning to the Skrill, Raineir moved towards her, getting her medical supplies out of her satchel. The dragon was in shock, obviously at the idea of a human viking protecting a dragon. Raineir put her hand out. After a moment of hesitation, the Skrill put her snout gently against the girl's hand. Raineir set to work, cleaning and bandaging her wounds. Raineir decided to name her new friend Flash. Once Flash was fully recovered, she accepted the girl as her trainer and rider. Because Raineir had saved her life, Flash would forever protect her from any threat. Together, nothing could stop them.
